Mount Dora Craft Show

Tina Allen from Mount Dora reminded me of the coming festival in Active Rain Withdrawals? I have visited the Show twice before, and she reminded me just in time for us to make plans for the coming weekend.

I also wanted to try to make a live contact with a fellow Rainer, and I was curious to meet Tina's daughter Tiffany, who at 12 is an aspiring entrepreneur, making cookie mixes and selling them on the Internet. I liked Tiffany's site, it has a warm feel, I am sure people like it.

Tina told me where to find them at Daisy a Day flower shop at 7th Street and Donnelly. It is my fault that I did not tell her that we were coming on Sunday. So, we found the shop but Tina was not there, we were told that she and Tiffany were somewhere in another kiosk.Well, considering the size of the show, it is not a simple thing to find. Over 250,000 people come to this 2 day event. City block after city block is taken over by tents, and the crowd is flowing the many blocks of this charming small lakefront town with more boutiques per sq. ft. than any other Florida city.

For us, coming from the flat east coast, hilly Mount Dora is a change. The trees are huge and tall, we do not have trees like that, and we are only 60-70 miles away. The place looks more from the North, which by some weird accident ended up in Florida.

I like to go to Shows, though I am not buying anything. I am going because I feel good in the crowd. I crave for that shoulder to shoulder crowd of realxed people, enjoying being out together.

Vendors are both local and from all over the country. It is fascinating to see so much creativity, fantasy, beauty brought from the whole nation. Some faces look familiar, I have seen them before. We walked the beautiful streets of Mount Dora and enjoyed the fun and a gorgeous weather, sunny and comfortable.

We did not find a kiosk with Cookies by Tiffany, maybe next time, at Art Show. Hope her business survives. Here's my wife Olga with the box. I do not know whether the Show was smaller this year or ot, but I noticed that fewer people were buying.

This is not the only show in Mount Dora, and not even the biggest. The Art Show attracts up to 300K people.

For Floridians this is a nice place to come and stroll the treed streets with hanging Spanish moss, enjoy the atmosphere, shop at numerous boutiques, check local fare at restaurants, spend time on the lake.

Patricia -  That happens when you write late and you are tired. I went back and changed a little, as we did not find Tina and did not find her 12-year old daughter Tiffany. In the Flower Shop we found her cute boxes and this is the photo of my wife Olga holding a box in her hands.

It is really such a huge show, that even after hours of walking the tented streets, we still did not see their kiosk.

But anyway, we enjoyed the day, and after the show we went to a local park on Lake Idamere and had barbecue. Beautiful scenery, smell of pine forest...

This is a good day of rest for all of us

Jon- well hello again!  I love that you have included us in another spot.  I am so sorry that I missed you.  I am adding a picture of Tiffany in her green shirt with her friend.. just in case you saw her and didn't know who she was. Tiffany is on the left.  Thanks again for the free advertising of Tiffany and her cookies at the craft fair. You are right- there seemed to be a lot of people this year, but, not as many big shoppers.

Tina - Thanks for the picture. We saw the girls, I did not know that she was there, and not selling the Cookie By Tiffany boxes out of a kiosk, so I was looking for the boxes, which are absolutely unmistakable with all those cute stickers.

For me that spirit, that I see in her endevour, is really valuable. I am coming from another country, it was different there, and that's why I feel even more this way, than many of those who were born in this country, and consider this a given.

Wishin you and daughter the best.

We will see you at some other event in your beautiful quaint Mount Dora.

Jon-  I believe the boxes were next to the nachos and popcorn-- what a mix....cookies, nachos and popcorn.  Glad I wasn't down there..I would have gained 20 pounds.

Tiffany definately has a wonderful spirit.  She is on cloud 9 all of the time.  Nothing upsets her for more than 5 seconds and she justs makes me laugh constantly.  This is her second year in middle school and it's getting a little tough, but I hope her positive outlook will keep her going.

I will definately remind you when the next event is and will also make sure to meet you and your wonderful wife.  I'll save you a box of cookies too....

Tina - Fine, everything but not cookies, or my wonderful wife will eat me alive. She is keeping an eye on me. Looks that my time for cookies is over (LOL).

Seems like you are having fun with your daughter. My elder grandson is 16, he is in High School, two more years. He is grown up, we are lucky we have a little one, an 8-year old Shane. He is a cute boy, smart, our joy.

Jon- they definately grow up fast.  My son just turned 14- I had him when I was 5 you know...that could happen right????  I have a 20 year old step-son that just was deployed to Iraq 2 weeks ago..we are definately proud- but a little scared for him.  My other step-son is 18 and trying to figure out what he wants to do....hopefully he will figure it out soon.  I bet you really enjoy hanging out with Shane..they are still cute and fun at that age.

We normally love to drive to the beach a lot- this year for some reason we didn't go so much, but when we start making plans again- maybe we will look for your office and swing by to say Hi---no cookies, I promise.

Wow, you have quite a family to take care of. I can only imagine how tought it is having a son in the war zone. Of course, you are proud of him, but I can imagine how worried you are.

When you drive here, it is so easy to find us. Our office is in the Fountain Beach Resort, second building south of International Speedway Blvd (Rt. 92) on Atlantic Ave. Right on the beach.

Welcome!
