Happy Election Day!

Services for Real Estate Pros with Zillow

The big day is finally here! I got to my polling place at 5:50am and was third in line. Glad I am an early riser because the line was growing fast. It was so cool to see all the people in my neighborhood out walking to the polls, out doing something together.

I heard something funny yesterday on the news, a commenter said "the only reason we have elections is to see if the polls were right".

So in that spirit, here are some interesting tidbits a recent Zillow poll found about the candiates and their relation to real estate.  Homeowners were asked who they were going to vote for in the presidential election, based on that, here’s what we found:

- Half (50%) of McCain voters believe their own home’s value has decreased over the past year, 18% think the value has remained steady, and 32% think their home’s value has increased.

- More than half (56%) of Obama voters believe their own home’s value has decreased over the past year. 16% think the value has remained steady, and 28% think their home’s value has increased.

- 22% of McCain voters believe their home’s value will increase in the coming 6 months, while 42% believe it will stay the same, and 36% believe their home’s value will decrease.

- Among planned Obama voters, 19% think their home’s value will increase, 37% think it will stay the same, and 44% think it will decrease.

Happy Voting!

Don't forgot to pick up your freebies these places are offering today to voters- Starbucks is offering a free cup of coffee, Krispy Kreme is giving away star-shaped doughnuts and Ben and Jerry's is offering a free scoop of ice cream.  Coffee, doughnuts and ice cream- that's my kind of meal!

Sara: you are an early riser! I voted about 8:30 this morning at our small rural outpost. It's always fun!

P.S. when are you in Seattle next?

Hey Sara~ I voted this am at about 7:00 and was in and out like a charm and even made a great contact for real estate!  I didn't get any of the "free" stuff..... but it is great that they were all offered!

Wow, you deserved to be first in line being up and out that early in the morning!  I hope Starbucks beat you there.  Thanks for sharing, those statistics are interesting and I hadn't heard them before.

My son just went looking for a place to VOTE and could not find one...it is only 6:21 pm in the state of Washington...he was told by them at the High School that all ballots are mailed to the registered...I told him to keep searching!

Interesting how supporters of both candidates have such similar views of the real estate market. It must be getting really exciting around Chicago right now. MSN projections have Obama with 200 electoral votes, and that doesn't even include a likely 77 from the west coast and Hawaii.

Interesting stats, to go a little deeper I wonder what part of the country these opinions came from? Hmmmm, just a thought. By the way, no freebies for voting in our parts, no lines at lunchtime either.

Sara - Here in Oregon, our Voting Pamphlets and Ballots arrive in the mail a couple of weeks before election day. Sure makes it convenient but kind of takes some of the excitement out of going to the polling places.

Sara -

What a day - yes?

I voted early (not often), and got to miss some of the big crowds today.

And, now, we have a new President Elect!

How inspirational - how intimidating!  His work, and our work, has yet to really begin.

Sara, thanks for connecting me with Dana today - its always good to connect with a fellow Chicagoan!

Those were some interesting statistics.  We vote by mail here (get our ballots about 3 weeks ahead of Election Day) -- you'd think there wouldn't be any lines would you?  If you wait too long though, you can't mail and have to drop your ballot off at one of the drop off locations. Yesterday at about 6 pm there were cars lined up at one of the drop off places and people were handing off their envelopes to colunteers to drop in for them.  It looked like April 15th, at the postoffice as people beat the 12 mindnight deadline!  The important thing though is that they were voting!
