We Have Spoken

By

Today is a day I've been looking forward to for almost 2 years... the day after election day.  I am now free to watch television or listen to the radio without being bombarded by political ads.

The results are in and the people have spoken in record numbers.  Change is here... or it will be here on January 20th.  I do not consider myself to lean left or right.  On some issues I agree with one party and on other issues I agree with the other side.

Today, I am very optimistic.  Though no one has a magic potion for what ails us as a nation, my hope is that this election will spark the turnaround we have been waiting.  Hopefully confidence will return and people will view the future as bright.  Our economy and the housing market has been in dire need of optimism and hopefully this change in leadership will be what we've been waiting for.

To our future success!!!

Confidence is a key word. With it, the realtors will start selling houses, the mortgage companys will supply mortgages, the comapnies will rehire employees, we will come forth as one solid strong country.

So many people I have spoken to already today are very optimistic about the future of our country. Obama is hitting the ground running - and off to a great start.

Karl, I agree... I'm not an Obama superfan... but am hopeful, and thrilled that the barage of campaign ads is over.

Lets just hope that the rest of America falls for the Change bit.....

I guess they'd have to, Chris, since BOTH candidates were offering "change".... weren't they?   bitter much?

Kathy- The next few weeks are key for Obama and his presidency as he will be choosing the members of his cabinet.  Let's hope he surrounds himself with the right people.

Chris- About 48% of voters wanted someone other than Obama.  If we are to turn the country around, it will take the support of everyone regardless of political preference.

Alan- Now that the election is over I think the only thing I will miss is Tina Fey impersonating Sarah Palin.  Whether you are red or blue, that was entertaining.

I'm as nervous as a new mother CAT. Though I am not an Obama fan, at all, I am an AMERICAN and know we must all come together so we can ALL get this great country back on track.  It takes more than one person, as we all know....

I think we need to allow a few days for people to mourn their losses.  For a large portion of America, this win will be a hard pill to swallow.   If I have one more person email me with the "Hahahahaha.....we won, you lost" crap, I'll scream.

We will be better served if we allow all of it to sink in and let us get used to the Change that is expected.  I'm a huge fan of less government, as are many people, and I think we're going to see more government intervention in our lives.  We'll get used to it and adjust, but please.....if you voted for Obama, enough with the rubbing our faces in it.  It was a great race, he had an awesome team of campaigners behind him, and evidently said some things that a lot of people liked.   But the mentality that we lost and you won is crazy......it's ONE NATION and we need to get back to that.

So, if you could, please don't email me and tell me how much better off we're all going to be (that was all said during the campaign and it's over now) and how elated you are and how you love the fact that "my candidate" lost.  If the goal is to become ONE NATION again, stop with the jabs and the digs.

I want to love our President, I really do.  Give me a chance to without souring it with your us and them mentality.  It's about US.....that's "us" and that's "U.S."  It's all ONE NATION!

Be careful for what you wish for.  That's the only thing that I can say.  I pray for him and that God stays with our nation.  I didn't like Obama saying that he may have to re-examine some of his promises.  That doesn't bode well in an acceptance speech.  Time will tell.  It's time to move on.

Alan,

Wow, the bitter much comment? Im not bitter at all. The writing has been on the wall for some time. I'm just commenting that our country needs to truly stop falling for the hype.... Not liberal or conservative. We need to see past partisan politics and advertising and unite! America didn't vote to change, if we had, we would have changed Congress.. I am truly not bitter, in fact I may even support OBama, but the real story is we dont accomplish change by electing a partisan President, we accomplish change by our own deeds and Actions...

"Actions are the seed of fate deeds grow into destiny." Harry Truman

Regardless of who you voted for, this as an amazing time to be an American. History is being made and we're a part of it. That's pretty cool! I was disapointed with the election results and a little anxious about this country's future but after hearing McCain's concession speech, I feel a little better. He is one impressive human being.

My mistake, Chris.

I tend to think the person who says "hope the rest of America FALLS for the change BIT" sounds bitter.  If you're not, glad to hear it

He DID say: Let us resist the temptation to fall back on the same partisanship and pettiness and immaturity that has poisoned our politics for so long. Let us remember that it was a man from this state who first carried the banner of the Republican Party to the White House -- a party founded on the values of self-reliance, individual liberty, and national unity. Those are values we all share, and while the Democratic Party has won a great victory tonight, we do so with a measure of humility and determination to heal the divides that have held back our progress. As Lincoln said to a nation far more divided than ours, "We are not enemies, but friends…though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection." And to those Americans whose support I have yet to earn -- I may not have won your vote, but I hear your voices, I need your help, and I will be your President too.

Sounds fairly bi-partisan to me.

Thank you all for your comments.  Though I did not intend to spark any type of debate, I do appreciate the spirited remarks.  This is a great example of how passionate this election made our nation.  I hope this passion does not fade and is used to help turn us around and get us headed down the road to recovery.
