I don't know why, but I feel as though there are a few in the Active Rain community that are blogging with nothing really to say, merely for the sake of getting points. Here is my opinion, the points will come, don't worry too much about that. But say something only when you feel that it contributes to the overall good of the community. That's just my point of view.

Scott: Something akin to blog spamming? It is hard to scroll through so much verbiage (some plagiarized) to find thoughtful and original writings.
An "up" point for you!
Points are enticing, certainly, but I blog for the sake of blogging. If you blog for points you'll run out of things that people want to read very quickly. Its much better to create an active discussion. I blogged recently about removing posts (which means I took away those points) because I did not want those posts to be out there to create the wrong picture of me.
For me, the dialogue I create is important. Nothing makes me happier than a post with lots of comments on it.
In fact, here is a post I wrote a while ago about why the conversation is so important to me.

Yes, I am here also to know people, share important information, learn from others & have fun sometimes, sometimes I post blogs for relax and laugh a little.

When I decided to make blog posts here at AR it wasn't for points, it was to give my website visitors, customers, and potential contacts a place to see (in a very limited way) who I am. We all run the risk of being just another website, just another blogger, just another agent, especially when we all post the same "10 steps", "First-time Buyers", and "Mortgage Rates Today" articles as the other 2000 agents in town (yeah, I do that too)... but I have the opportunity to put a little personality online as well, in my blog posts, so they'll more than likely >not< be Real Estate specific hints and advice. I'm not sure if that's what you're seeing that looks like blogging for points, but if it is, how about if Active Rain gave us the option of Turning Off Blog Post Points? Now THAT would be an interesting filter, wouldn't it ;)
I like reading the posts that aren't business specific, as much as the ones that are (some days, more).

He (Jamie Maxwell) only has 13 blog posts and the last one was 08/11/2006 and he also has very few comments on blogs.
Most of his points come from people he invites to join here.
Some people are just naturally more prollific than others, some are more competative, and some just like to write. Of course there are some just in it for the points thing although I can't imagine why.
I tried to deposit some of my points at the credit union last week and they said they weren't worth anything there. ;-)
People do post for points. Interesting if there is an incentive to do something people will do what they are incented to do. I can't imagine any otner way to get real estate professional to blog.
I do agree there is a lot of junk out here. I think they should only give points for one post a day. I already have a blog, have had for almost a year. Who has time for an extra blog?
When I was a teacher, I realized that it didn't matter how old the students were. They liked to be rewarded for the work that they did. I believe that even as an adult this still holds true. The point system gives members a sense of achievement or accomplishment and lets them know where they stand. My only concern is that you shouldn't change the point system in mid stream. I understand that older members had some advantages that newer members do not have in regards to points. If this is the case then this should somehow be corrected. One should have a equal playing field to have the same opportunity as everyone else regardless of when they started. Points are great; comments to a blog are better.
