I found a kind of funky inspirational site the other day called the Inspiration Line. Their tag line is "It's time to BE - the world you want to see." They have a series of Words From the Wise videos and many links to other inspiration themed sites, such as Angels, Art, Music, Books and Poetry, Travelguides, and Trivia, Brainteasers & Other Amazing Stuff to name a few. You can subscribe to a daily newsletter and get inspiring quotes, or set up a RSS feed.
A sampling of quotes:
"Real generosity is doing something nice for someone who will never find out," ~Frank A. Clark.
"Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice," ~Williams Jennign Bryan.
"Facing future I see hope, hope that we will survive, hope that we will prosper, hope that once again we will reap the blessings of this magical land, for without hope I cannot live, remember the past but do not dwell there, face the future where all our hopes stand." ~Israel Kamakawiwo'ole
"I have this theory that chocolate slows down the aging process.... It may not be true, but do I dare take the chance?"~Anonymous...
The November 10th newsletter was ‘Choosing Not-So-Random Acts of Kindness'. There was a list of 60 really great things to do for others. Some that I loved were: Pay the toll charge for the car behind you. Put change in the slots of vending machines. Drop off a toy at a homeless shelter. Cut an article out of the newspaper that would interest a friend and mail it to them. Leave something of value in an area where it might be used (a book in a reading area, magazines at an airport, umbrella by a door). I got a kick out of the idea to leave a few extra stamps next to the stamp machine at the post office. Can't you just imagine the next persons delight at getting something for nothing!
My favorite from that list was to anonymously send something to a friend that you know they will enjoy, like a gift card, movie tickets, a book and so on. I used to call those miracles in the mail, a term started when I was really, really broke, I'll say almost poor as my kids and I were getting by with food stamps and AFDC checks while I was in school. I received two miracles in the mail during that time. A cashier's check in the mail for a substantial - at the time - amount of money, and on Easter morning a 100 dollar bill in a plastic egg tied to the door! You've no idea what those miracles meant to me. It was then that I made the commitment to do the same thing once I got on my feet. And it is fun to do!
I watched the video, "Curious About Life?" by Nic Askew which is featured on the site. I liked it! Cute, quirky and apropos for the eternal question, "who do I want to be when I grow up? You can link to his site, Soul Biographies, and set up a feed to get his once weekly videos. His site is fabulous - short films and biographies, or in his words, "short films and words, extraordinary people through an extraordinary lens." I was moved by the "beyond the words" starring Feliciano Pop video, part of his Soul of Guatemala series.
I subscribed and am looking forward to getting the newsletter. Might use some of the quotes in my posts! Plan to figure out how to get Nic's RSS feed too.
