I’m an Air Force mom and aunt. My son Patrick, my niece Danae`, her husband Kevin, my nephew Adam are all active duty Air Force, currently stationed stateside. They each have done their tour of duty in the Middle East. I am so proud of all of them, for the sacrifices that they have made to serve their country and us. My cousin’s grandson, Kenny, who is in the Army, is currently stationed in Iraq. My brother-in-law Bob, 23 years in the Army Reserve, served over a year (2005-2006) in the Middle East.
Patrick didn’t meet his daughter until she was 7 months old. He did get to see her via web cam. Adam has just completed additional training in Texas. He was away from his family for several months. His son Gabriel is just 2 ½ years old and missed his father so much. Last year, at Thanksgiving, the family brought “Goodies” and we packaged them and sent them to Iraq. USPS has boxes that ship for $8.95 per box (that was last year’s price). We filled 8 boxes with “Goodies”. They are supposed to arrive in 7-10 days. Ours arrived in 5-7 days. The double batch of fudge arrived in 5 days and was gone in less than 24 hours. My chocolate chip cookies are now internationally famous.
I’d like everyone to take the time to thank a service person (past or present) for the sacrifices that they have made for us. Whether you agree with the war or not, they deserve our whole hearted support. They are the best and the brightest. Support them. Pray for them. Keep them in your thoughts.
