Now that your Taxes are filed--- Some great resources......

Real Estate Agent with One Sotheby's International Realty- Miami Beach Real Estate

I have a client who is in the business of buying companies for a very large company in NYC.  When I was working with him, I of course, asked him tons of questions about what he does for a living.  Basically, the first part of his job is doing due diligence on the company that his client is interested in.  This is real BIG-TIME stuff!  So by nature he is an information seeker and gatherer.  His motto, and I have 'annexed it' as well, is 'TRUST BUT VERIFY'.

I love to have an arsenal of information (checklists) to reference for everyone I deal with, from my lady who handles all my investments, to my web developer, my accountant and so forth.

I received an e-mail from the IRS about two months ago inviting me to sign up for an 'IRS e-news for Small Businesses'.

In today's timely e-mail was a handy pdf printable brochure: Publication 4591Small Business Federal Tax Responsibilities, provides essential information for small businesses and the self-employed in one convenient location.

The tri-fold brochure includes:

  • Information about Federal Tax Responsibilities
  • Most Often Used Forms or Publications for Small Businesses
  • Web Resources-Starting, Operating and Closing a Business
  • Links to Federal and State Government Agencies
  • IRS Media Resources and Services

This is a great resource for many, many reasons.  It will give you references and guidelines for you to 'VERIFY' a lot of the information that you are ULTIMATELY responsible for.

Most of the RE professionals I know are self-employed so this is really good stuff for us!  It is a must print!

You can sign up for 'IRS e-news for Small Businesses' here

This is the IRS Small Business home page.

Thanks Kevin. I love the line, "trust but verify". That's not a bad motto for us as agents, either. A good friend of mine/ours used to be a journalist - first for a local paper, then a national one, and eventually he was a bureau chief in a huge city for a large part of the world. Anyway, he used to laughingly quote his journalism professor from Northwestern as saying the same kind of thing, but to make a point, it was even more dramatic: "If your mother says she loves you, check it out!"
