I admit it. It’s true. We home stagers do very often express frustration that so few people seem to really “get” the idea of home staging. We write blog after blog trying to explain the benefits of staging, and discussing how hard it is to get Realtors and home sellers to see how practical and beneficial home staging is for all concerned.
Sometimes I wonder what Realtors and home sellers think when they read those blogs. Are they mystified? Irritated? Bored? Do they ever notice how often we speak of home staging as more than a business or a marketing strategy? It is a way of serving people. Home staging doesn’t just have Brain; it has Heart.
The more time I spend in the world of home staging, the more keenly I feel how much I as a stager have to offer home sellers. Here in the Orlando area, as everywhere, I drive past home after home with a for-sale sign marked “Reduced,” or “New price!” (And we all know what that means!) I look through the MLS and see pictures of listings not doing themselves justice --either full of belongings, or stripped bare and characterless. Many others are neat and tidy, but lack that spark that will set them apart from the pack.
It makes me want to shout, “We can help you! Don’t let your home just sit there on the market with all those other homes! We can make it stand out!” Staging isn’t just another expense in an expensive process; it’s an investment in keeping the process as short as possible. There’s a world of home-selling stress out there, and it’s my job (and my joy!) to decrease it, home by home and family by family.
