oinky the recession proof pigINTRODUCING

OINKY: THE RECESSION-PROOF PIG

Beautifully hand-painted in Pepto Bismol pink by refugees in Sudan, Oinky is guaranteed to please even the fussiest collector. Oinky rests on four meticulously crafted feet. This delightful pig will entertain you for hours with his two whimsical ears, two of the sweetest black ebony eyes made from brilliantly colored faux pearls, and a penny receptacle snout (coins not included).

Show the world you care deeply about the recession. Oinky is delicately wrapped in a fine solid sterling silver chain of links. This world class lovable piggy replica features  a porcelain body, glowing with personality and charm.

Oinky is the creation of Thurston Howell, reknown master of bacon-inspired art. It's an exquisite showpiece fit for a queen or king.

Imagine the joy on your children's faces as they discover that once they drop a penny into Oinky's snout, it's inside Oinky's belly forever.

Sweeter than a slab of ham, Oinky is approximately 11" (27.9 cm) in height. Order your limited edition today. Only $198 or 3 easy monthly payments of $66.00. Send check or money order to: Useless Stuff, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Wash., D.C. 20050.

Service You Can Trust ~ Someone You Can Depend On

Elizabeth,  To bad more people didn't have and feed "oinky" before purchasing a home.  I think it is a skill that many of us forgot about.  My Dad always used to say "pay yourself first (savings, oinky, or whatever you want to call it), before you pay anyone else."  He lived through the depression and watched as his family lost their farm and most of their worldly possessions.  They wasted nothing --- not even the pig's squeal (he he, couldn't resist).

We, as a society today, are wasteful and throw away and discard things that are perfectly good, but we can't wait to get our hands on the newest, latest and greatest gadget.  And actually, things are made to last less time so that we are inclined to do exactly that.

Guess it is time that we all take a look at what we have and ways we can stop the waste.  Manufacturers should be encouraged to make things that can be "updated" rather than merely thrown out.

Loved your analogy by the way ----

Thanks

Thurston Howell - how many television shows do you think we will start seeing - mimicking him - remember the sitcoms from the 70's and 80's and how much they portrayed saving, and being saving minded...

Great message with a wonderful twist on humor

Put 40 years of experience to work for you

Hi Everybody: I saw this picture in Parade on Sunday and, for a moment, thought it was an ad for one of those mail order companies. Then it occurred to me that I could write my own parody.

Most real estate agents have little or no training on how to write marketing materials. Perhaps NAR could offer classes on marketing and PR, and make students write advertising copy, describing the ugliest trinkets they could find. It would be a good exercise.

P. S. I even considered putting in my own address, but then I figured somebody would probably send me a check. I'm astounded at what people will buy.

Debi: I do suspect that Thurston Howell, the renowned master of bacon-inspired art is indeed the same Thurston Howell the third. How do I personally know these creative artists? You tell me.

Hi Barbara: Well, what are you waiting for? Send in your check!

Elizabeth - I just saw where the replaced this with the new, improved Bailout Oinky.

With the new Oinky, the value of your savings is devalued from 10% - 25% and that value is automatically transferred to the bail-out target d'jour.

Yeah, and Victoria's Secret wrote this morning to say it wants my opinion on holiday shopping. Sorry, Victoria, I haven't finished thumbing through Neiman Marcus' Christmas catalog.
