How to Market in a 'Shift Happens' Market

I've been in the real estate business for over 16 years and it just never seems to amaze me how our fraternity gets sideways 'everytime' the market goes through a change. Or an adjustment cycle, or from buyers market to sellers market and then back again to a buyers market. Well, I hate to be the one to tell you, but,  this is a 'normal' thing!

How do you market this kind of change? Why cant I sell anything? Why arent sellers listening to me? Why do they 'still' think their home is worth what it was a year ago? Oh woe's me!, oh poor me! Oh why dont you go pour yourself another drink? THIS ISNT ANYTHING NEW AGENTS! Did you truly think that the market terms we had a year ago were going to stay constant? Did you think the sellers were going to continue to see there homes increase in values? If thats so, then who in the world is or can qualify for one? Anyone out there watch the Mind of Mencia?  DEE-DEE-DAH!

Enough of that! Here's the deal. This is what I always say, and how I've always tried to work my business. Some activities over the years I have become lathargic with, but I have always worked in this manner. Are you ready? Okay here it is: BACK TO BASICS!

Can you believe it? Thats it! Thats exactly what the big boys and girls do routinely. Day in and day out. I've heard it said this way, 'take the next indicated step'. The name of the game has always been lead generation. The big gurus of today want us to believe this is something new, and everyone flocks to these seminars and pays HUGE bucks to listen to someone tells us how to run our business, and those guys have never even worked in real estate or havent work real estate in decades yet, 'they' are the experts! But we who have been around for a while know this as cold calling, glad handing, walking your farm, open houses, meet the neighbors, flyers, e-mailing,thank you notes, on and on.

I hope I dont offend anyone, thats not my intentions. I just simply trying to get anyone who reads this to take a moment and look at what activity you are doing on a daily basis to generate one more potential client. Dont stand frozen like the deer in the headlights, realize that 'shift happens'. Pick yourself up, pull up your boot strings and get to working!

Michael,  I'm surprised no one else has replied to you.  Perhaps everyone is busy "working" on the 3 Big L's!  Everything you wrote is absolutely true.  If you want to survive this market correction you have to go back to basics!  Thanks for that little pick me up and confirmation that I'm headed in the right direction.
