At Home- November 2008

Real estate is a cyclical business.  Every year the number of home sales decreases as both buyers and sellers start focusing on the coming holiday season.  That doesn't mean people don't think about real estate.  As people gather for Thanksgiving, company holiday parties, and Christmas, at some point the conversation turns to real estate.  Maybe it's your partner saying, "Our house is too small" or an in-law saying, "When are you going to buy a home".  This time of year is the starting point for next year's real estate market.  The national media has a doom and gloom outlook for real estate.  However, real estate is ultimately a local market.  In Omaha, real estate values are remaining somewhat steady.  The number of home buyers has decreased over the past year which means prices are down slightly.  Just remember, the next time someone asks you about buying or selling a home, real estate is local and homes are selling, home values are stabilizing, and Omaha is a great place to buy a home and raise a family.

Mortgage update:

As a home buyer would you rather wait for home prices to fall 5%, while mortgage interest rates climb by ½ %? Or buy a home now and get the current interest rate?  Check out my recent blog post.

Trivia Challenge Question:

Thanks to everyone that submitted guesses last month.  The correct answer was "Tommy Boy" with Chris Farley.

Name that movie?

This is one of my favorite movies.  Here is the quote, "You're going the wrong way!?" What's the name of the movie?

Thanks again for taking a few minutes out of your day to read my real estate newsletter.  I appreciate it and welcome any suggestions!

Statistics show everyone knows of 3 - 6 people who will buy or sell a home each year.  I would really appreciate your referral if you know anyone that will be buying or selling a home in the future.  Please forward them my contact information, my website link, or this newsletter.

Finally, check out my website called www.OmahaRealtyBlog.com for recent posts and statistics on the Omaha real estate market.

Good article Steve.  After attending the NAR (National Association of Realtors) convention last week.  I'm really feeling grateful that our market in the Omaha area is fairly stable.  Our prices and sales are down slightly, but nothing compared to whats going on national wide!  We've even seen a slight increase in activity and sales.  Buzz on the street is we have a lot of people PCSing into Offutt AFB this winter.  I'm hoping this will give us a good winter boost of activity.
