The Problem with the US Economy

In my opinion, the root of the problem with the US economy is the extreme number of jobs being shipped out of the country.  If you look at how many jobs have gone to Mexico and overseas in the last few years, you begin to wounder how people without jobs, or in constant fear of their jobs being shipped out of country, you can see why a growing number of people can no longer afford to make their mortgage payments or credit card payments.

But then, how can USA labor possibly compete against $1-$3 per hour wages for goods & services???  When big corporations like Walmart, etc. can buy "out of country" goods & services for 1/10 the price they would have to pay for USA made good and services, who can blame them?

The Gov. bailouts are giving Billions $$$ to Banks, with the intent taht Businesses will borrow money to keep their USA based businesses afloat. But the problem is that the Corporations who at one time were buying from these USA based businesses, are now buying their goods and services from other countries.

And we all know that no one wants to sell their home in a "Buyer's Market", and no one will buy a home if they are afraid of loosing their job!

Until the Government can come up with a solution to the "out sourcing of America", we may be in for a long depression ahead.

Well what you are complaining about is the core principles of capitalism. Thats how it works. It sure isnt friendly but thats what capitalism is. Its ironic how we have the impression that we have a free market when we dont and then when capitalism starts failing people want the government to step in.

I dont agree with how it works but thats what it is.

I am a pollyanna by nature, and see that the market is getting better.  My agent clients are busier now than they have been all year.

Yes, we are very busy here also.  Over 200 foreclosure properties came on the market in our rural area of NW Arkansas last month, many at or below market value.

Economist Lester Thurow writes that "democracy and capitalism have very different beliefs about the proper distribution of power. One believes in a completely equal distribution of political power, 'one man one vote,' while the other believes that it is the duty of the economically fit to drive the unfit out of business and into extinction. 'Survival of the fittest' and inequalities in purchasing power are what capitalist efficiency is all about. Individual profit comes first and firms become efficient to be rich. To put it in its starkest form, capitalism is perfectly compatible with slavery. Democracy is not."
