In am effort to continually climb the google charts I performed this experiment and had incredible results.
See if changing the name of a page from falmouth.php to falmouth-maine-real-estate.php will effect my placement.
Prior to changing the name I placed 81 for the google search "Falmouth Maine real estate"
Implementing the change in page name, deleting the old one on my site so as not to have duplicate content (plus checkibg the google webmasters tools to see if there were any incoming links to the old page that would be effected) and then simply adding two blog posts with links to the new page www.mymaineproperty.com/falmouth-maine-real-estate.php from Active Rain and my own personal Maine real estate blog
Voila! My current ranking is now 8!! thus 81 to 8!!!
This all happened in about a week, and it was not a totally controlled experiment given I did also add the 2 postings with links to the new page but I believe the title of the page played a seriously significant factor!
LESSON: Change the names but do not change too rapidly as Google may suspect something is fishy and ALSO be sure if you have a lot of pages linking to your old page that you change the links on the other pages!
All the best,
