A Beautiful and Growing City

Atlanta boasts two outstanding and distinct skylines, largely comprised of high-rise buildings and structures representative of both the modern and postmodern era. The Bank of America Plaza is the tallest landmark of the city and the 24th-tallest building in the world, towering an impressive 1,023 feet high.

The first skyline is the central business district of Atlanta, which is mainly centered around the Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel. The Westin Peachtree Plaza hotel was at one time the tallest building in Atlanta (prior to construction of the Bank of America Plaza). The central business district also includes 191 Peachtree Tower, SunTrust Plaza, Georgia-Pacific Tower, and several smaller buildings that make up Peachtree Center. The second skyline is that of Midtown Atlanta, an area farther north of the city. Midtown Atlanta is a neighborhood that has established itself as the main center of commercial development. Often called the "city of trees" or the "city in a forest," the Atlanta skyline gives way to a canopy of woods that extends well into the suburbs, providing another benefit of owning Atlanta real estate.

In addition to the rapid growth of Atlanta real estate, the business economy of the city is thriving as well. Atlanta's 1180 Peachtree building, located in Midtown, opened in 2006 and was awarded a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Award from the U.S. Green Building Council. The year 2006 was a banner year for Atlanta real estate, when more than 60 new high rise buildings were erected, and a plan was set in motion to make the 14-block stretch of the city's Peachtree Street a world-class street-level shopping destination. Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin was responsible for promoting this important initiative. Known as the "Midtown Mile," the Peachtree Street shopping district attempts to rival the famous Rodeo Drive of Beverly Hills and Chicago's Magnificent Mile.

Atlanta ranks third in the list of cities featuring the greatest number of Fortune 500 company headquarters. Major corporations such as The Coca Cola Company, Home Depot, BellSouth, Cingular Wireless, Delta Airlines and more have prominent locations within the metro area. In addition, Atlanta is a major cable television programming center, and is home to Cox Enterprises and Turner Broadcasting. Ted Turner has also established the CNN Center, which is adjacent to Atlanta's Centennial Olympic Park. Other cable networks such as TNT, The Weather Channel, and the Cartoon Network also have offices in or near Atlanta.

With its magnificent skylines, high rise buildings, business districts, and major shopping venues, Atlanta real estate is sure to continue to prosper. Atlanta relocations are popular for working individuals and families who choose to live in a city known for its excellent economy, remarkable cleanliness, and charming neighborhoods. The MARTA system, comprised primarily of buses and subways, provides convenient, affordable public transportation to Atlanta residents.
