Real Living ecard Christmas

It's not as early as last year... or maybe I did not notice it until today.  Sunny 95 has Christmas music this morning.

Last year it started earlier?  In a poll last year, the smattering who read or cared thought November 3 was NOT too early for Christmas music on the radio.  Or the majority of the smattering who read or cared voted that it was not too early for Christmas music.

Poll from Discover Columbus 2007Discover Columbus 2007 Christmas Music Poll

It's November 15.  That's not early, really. Thanksgiving is a couple of weeks away.  Driving by Polaris last night we wondered if Santa was there yet...

I won't even bother with a poll this year.  If November 3 wasn't too early in 2007 why would November 15 be too early in 2008.

Sunny 95 online gives you the choice of "holiday" music or their regular fare. Their site says they are "Columbus Continuous Christmas Music Station."

Maureen,

I am of the old, old school and think that we should wait until after Thanksgiving before we start with Christmas.  So if I was to vote I would say it is way tooooooo early.

I am a former retailer.  PUSHING Christmas doesn't bother me, it is the American way.... not that hearing Christmas music is necessarily going to make anyone go on a buying frenzy.

I feel so bad for those in retail this year.

Sunday night is a Christmas event at Polaris Fashion Place.  I should click and see what is all about,

Hi Maureen... I am with Don.  Christmas season should begin the day after Thanksgiving.  A few years ago, I actually sent a letter the the General Manager of the car dealership where I purchased my car and have it serviced.  I had taken my car in for service in mid-October (pre-Halloween) and there was already tinsel, ornaments and Christmas decorations hung around the parts and service area of the dealership.  I told him that I found that to be excessively early.  They had to order some warranty parts for a couple of non-urgent issues, so I told him that I would not be bringing my car back to him for the follow-up service and installation of the parts until after Thanksgiving.  I am not sure if it made a difference, but they now wait until a more appropriate time in Nov. to decorate.

I usually  give everyone the benefit of the doubt that they are running their business the best they know how when it comes to setting up taking down seasonal decorations.  I will notice early decorations but probably would never care enough to say anything.

I know the department store I worked for when I was first out of college had to start setting up the Christmas shop before Halloween, I don't think the store was decorated for Christmas until after Halloween though.  We did such a huge part of our years business during the holiday season it was scary.  Christmas commercialized?  You betcha!  I feel anxious for retailers this year.

Alarm just went off.  First song White Christmas.

Some of the stores here have had Christmas stuff out since the day after the Fourth of July. It was really weird. Personally, I like to celebrate each month before moving on to the next month. Of course, I do my Christmas shopping from December 26 to about January 31.... for next year. Get lots of good bargains that way.
