First Time Homebuyer Class

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty

I conducted my first First Time Homebuyer Class on November 8.  I sent out 500 postcards to rental properties, announced the class at networking groups and utilized the lender and home inspector with getting fliers out to their contacts.

The week of the class, I learn another agent in our office (almost 200 agents) is conducting a First Time Buyer's class on the Thursday night prior to my Saturday class.  Also, another agent in the city had an article in the previous Sunday's real estate section of the paper with his First Time Buyer's class on that same Thursday night.

I had sent in announcements to the local paper of our class but had seen nothing until the Thursday paper where a short blurb was mentioned.

We had 14 attend the class that Saturday morning.  There were a 3 couples in the group.  Most had seen the article in the paper or on line and several were contacts of mine, newer leads.

I taught staight from Gary Keller's "Your First Home Book" powerpoint available on line.

As far as the other agent in my office, I understand there were no attendees.  The agent with another company I have heard had about 15 people.  I think the difference was getting noticed in the local paper.

I'd call it a success.  I have a few more leads than before the event.  I had some help with paying for it with the lender providing the food and the home inspection paying for the printing costs of the postcards.

I also had the notice posted with our local Chamber's website and received a call from another lender wanting to be a part of any future classes.

In today's market, buyers are worth gold to me.  Conducting this class was worth the effort.

How about you?  Success suggestions for future classes?

Sounds encouraging.

We are hosting our first class this week.

Any words of wisdom?
