Gas is down, What are you doing to keep it down?

Ok, this is kind of a Rant!   I am driving down the freeway and I drive about 65, 5 miles under the posted limit.  My fuel economy is 12% better at 65 than at 75.   When gas was pushing $4 a gallon, most everyone was crying, now they are driving like Raped Apes!  I feel like my van is up on Blocks!

Did we learn nothing?  There were a lot of reasons for the price gouging, but, conserving is also good on the pocket book.  The world is yelling that the economic conditions are so poor...Hell, look at the freeway and the speeds and I don't believe it.  If money is so tight, why would anyone want to spend more on fuel than neccessary?

It will take a real well rounded approach to keep energy at a modest cost, but it won't happen if we don't try and do our part!

And what is it with all the extra lights on in empty buildings?

Were still driving conservative, less trips, more errands in one trip, still planning on getting a hybrid or all electric car.

My husband is a conspiracy theorists and he truly believes that Americans will become complacent once again and change nothing.  I'm not among them, but I believe the vast majority he is correct about.  He also says OPEC will keep the price down long enough for that to occur.

Good post William.  We have very short memories about almost everything. We need to conserve and to push for alternative fuels. Just because the price is temporarily down doesn't mean the problem is solved.

We're still combining errands and trips. It became an easy habit.

Time is money sometimes, but other times I can easy off the gas.  We have been using the twisty bulbs for at least 10 years.  Back in the day, they were like $10 EACH, and still economical.

Conservation is the key. On the other hand i've been thinking about stockpiling gasoline so I can sell it when the price goes back up.  It's hard for me to believe that the prices fell so quickly just do to us curbing our demand.

Good tips, I still drive as little as possibe to conserve. I am always turning off lights no matter where I go. Our gas is down to $2.45 a gallon thank goodness. Now we have to wait for the rest of the economy to get back in shape.

I drive a diesel...  that saves LOTS of gas.  Don't get me started on diesel refining, though.  Of course if I could brew bio-diesel in the garage, that would be even cooler.

Justin commented about gas prices falling so quickly...heck, I knew that was going to happen, an election was coming up.  Nice things like that tend to happen before an election.  And...the prices will be going back up soon.  Will it be before Christmas, or after the new President takes office.  I'm guessing the latter.  AS for me, I have slowed down to save gas (and money).

I do a lot of coasting and get close to 30 mpg in my Explorer.  The little kids in their rice grinders that ride my tail with the bass blasting annoy the snot out of me.

Hi everyone...I wish more people would think about it.  My niece was complaining about being just little short on money, and when she left floored it.  Well ther part of the money she is short.

Keep up the good work. Maybe it's because the majority of us do not have the extra to go back to bad habits!

Bill...

Americans have short memories. As long as gas is cheap they will burn it without regard, so I expect prices to start climbing again!

Bill - it's amazing how quick some people forget.  I am still doing the 55 thing - in a 55 limit - everyone else is flying by.

William, we're trying to make less trips, combining trips to get several errands and shopping done at a time.  Agreed, we all need to do our part to influence demand side of the price/demand equation.
