Street of Dreams Gets a Makeover: Greener and Smaller

green home iconI have to admit that I’m very pleased to read a recent article about changes taking place for the 2009 Street of Dreams show.  While this is a wonderful event, with excellent design it has gotten a bit too lavish and ostentatious for my liking.

This show sets the standard and direction for much of the industry, and really, who needs a 7000 square foot house?  I have a hard enough time keeping my 2300 square feet clean. :)

The 2009 dream homes will certainly prove to be “idea houses.”  The focus for this year has shifted from one of finishes, materials, detailing and game rooms to sustainability.  Those are exactly the new ideas that home owners need now.  I think they are all aware of the fancy do-dads of years past. I applaud the Home Builders Association for changing with the times, and proving to be innovators.

According to the article on OregonLive, all of the 2009 homes will be Earth Advantage certified and will highlight energy efficiencies and storm water management systems.  Hopefully this year’s show will show that green and efficient can also be synonymous with luxury.  And, that bigger isn’t necessarily better!

I had the fun of touring the Street of Dreams with a few other stagers this year, but continued to ask myself -- when is enough going to be enough -- bigger, grander, more expensive -- who is buying these homes (and maintaining their grandeur!)  I'm so glad to hear that the focus has shifted to be more in line with what home buyers are interested in!  Thanks for sharing this information!
