Just thought I would put up some crazy stuff that I have seen.

Flue

Yes that is a gas line just to the rear of the single wall flue.  The heater was back drafting badly, filling the basement with flue gas.  That is dangerous alone but it could also find it's way upstairs.

I know that every one has their favorite, Please share.

This may not be my favorite, but indicative of my area.

A buyer, who did not use me for the home inspection when he bought the house a couple of months ago, heard about me from a neighbor and asked me to check out why his exterior masonry was crumbling and the house seemed to be moving.  This is what I found behind and below the problem spot.  Your basic polyfoam foundation repair!  At least he used maximum expansion - to provide maximum strength and maximum support and all... like wow, to the max!  Cute!

I am not sure why his inspector did not catch this - maybe stuff was piled up in front to hide it.  My homeowner client did not think anything of it!

There was evidence also of a lot of previous moisture intrusion.  It seems the polyfoam worked great for that!  Well, at least for now...

If poly foam is that good, maybe they should have used it when thye built the foundation.  It's more expensive than mortar though.  ;-)
