The RAIN......On The PLANE

But Not in Spain...

I've signed contracts in some strange places over the years, and it got me wondering if other real estate agents have odd-place-signing stories too.

Looking back, my list includes:

RestaurantFudds

Restaurants (of course) from Pizza Hut and Fuddruckers to Ruth's Chris Steak House.

Bowling

Then the signing was at a bowling alley with the rumble of balls and clatter of pins as background music.

ChurchSynagogue

There have been contracts signed in a church and a synagogue, not during services or on the Sabbath.

We've signed at the gym. There was a front step signing and one in a parking lot among the cars and shoppers. Several contracts have been signed-in my car, too.

LifeBridge

FrontSteps

MR Car

SignPlane

The most fun signing had to be on the wing of our airplane. My sellers were at their summer home in Atlantic City, NJ, and I had listed their unique contemporary home in Baltimore. I wasn't their first agent, so I was determined to get it to them right away when we got the contract. After calling and telling them to meet me at the Atlantic City airport, my husband and I flew down to the shore. I'd expected them to be excited and waiting out front for us. We walked into the airport office and found them just sitting there; they didn't think I would be there. After that, where else but the wing of our plane could we sign that contract?

And here is one more Yee Haw a contract is negotiated!

My favorite place to sign is still in cyberspace with all those exciting places. I can get them signed anywhere between my phone and computer capabilities and email.

Great post, Margaret, I want a pair of those fuzzy slippers!  Interesting responses - my most interesting sign was at the theatre, the lead actress, during her break!

Apparently, me and my clients are terribly boring.  Bars, restaurants, gas stations and the like.  But I want to hear more about getting strip club clients!  Does he farm for them or is it just word of mouth?

The best real estate agents are always prepared.  You never know when the client will be ready to sign a contract.  If you are not ready when the moment arrives, they may cool off by the time you are prepared.   I had a client who was running out of time on a lease and wanted to find the perfect home to purchase.   We were out late one evening looking at property and came upon what may have been "the one".   It was getting dark, the property we wanted to see was vacant and without electricity.  Instead of calling it a day, I had flashlights in the trunk of my car.  We viewed the property by flashlight!   The client loved the home and we stood in the pitch-black kitchen, and signed the purchase contract by flashlight. Thank you to Eveready batteries!

Fun read, Margaret, and some great comments. Guess I have not been in the business long enough to have any terrific signing spots that will compete with yours. Chilis Restaurant and an Italian subshop at a medical school are as about as creative as I have had to be...so far.

Karen,We would all like to know the name of that actress or at least the play. Did you have to sit through all the acts? Internet only slippers. LOL. Jack Peckum always talks about working in his fuzzy slippers.

Chris, I suggest you ask Bob!

Janet, This is a good reminder to keep supplies such as  flashlights and extra batteries in our car. Good job on being well prepared.

Jeff,

Of those dozen or so  sales of your personal properties, one must have been done in a place other than the traditional office.  You are right; this has been a fun post and lots of great comments.  Funny how we agents gravitate toward restaurants and food for our signings.

Margaret, The strangest place I ever signed a contract was on the side of the Interstate. The buyers called me and wanted to meet to write an offer on a home we had seen twice. I understood from the listing agent that there was another contract being presented that evening. They were on their way to meet me and their truck broke down. They again called and informed me of what happened I offered to pick them up but they wanted/needed to wait for the tow truck. So there on the side of the very busy I95 @ 5pm we wrote an offer to purchase. They did get the home! Thanks for the fun article - I love to read where others have written offers.

Phill,

That is a great story. Glad they got the house; they certainly had a good agent.

We succesful agents are certainly resourceful.  I once totaled a car on the Baltimore beltway, called my daughter to come wait for the tow truck, took her car and delivered a contract.

Welcome to the Rain fellow Baltilmore agent!

How about on the hood of my car at 11PM in the entrance to the Sanford Flea Market in northern central Florida......the buyer was a 21 year old guy who was in college and wanted a nice place to live with his mom while he got his degree.....she did NOT speak or write or read english....

What a nice kid, hmm?

Hows that??

My experiences are boring comparing to all of yours. I mainly do retail and office calls. Nail Salons, Bell South ofc, mortgage broker office. I have caught a few random signatures on the fly--at church, parked side by side at sonic and passing the tablet.
