New Orleans Board Raises Dues When Our Business is the Worst

I find it curious and very insulting that our board NOMAR, has decided to raise our annual dues for 2009.

The reasons given are very similar to what I believe the Incoming Presidential Administration, will be like.  The first reason, We lost our building during Hurricane Katrina..  Nobody asked us as dues paying Realtors if they should purchase a NEW BUILDING and take on a MORTGAGE to be paid with our dues.  Reason 2 Membership is down...DUH Ya think?  In this market, all of the part timers as well as the types that always wanted their Real Estate License are dropping like flies.  There are other lame justifications they offer to us as DUES PAYING MEMBERS, that are just as lame.  My question for the board is simple. What have you cut back on during this difficult market.  Have your staff taken a pay cut or have you reviewed your needs and made any cuts.. These people have not been affected by the down market, they get paid whether we sell homes or NOT.

The next problem I am having is PERSONAL IDX ACCESS.  Our board in all of it's wisdom have essentially given access to the principal BROKER MEMBERS only, making it impossible for an agent (WHO IS WILLING to pay for access) to brand themselves.  My web designer says that less than 20% of the boards adhere to this draconian practice.  Finally I am sick and tired of being charged for things that I have no say in. Virtually having policies shoved down my throat, and NOMAR"S dues increase is equilivant to a TAX INCREASE in a bad economy.

As membership goes down dues go up. Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. You can't survive a downward spiral like that forever.
