Real Estate Apathy and Falsehoods

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Preferred Inc. Realtors

What is the single greatest challenge to the Portland Oregon economy? Is it Jobs ? Is it Money for lenders as the national news would report? Or is it apathy and falsehoods?

Yesterday I was sitting down for a little rest and relaxation at a favorite hang out and heard someone in the background with a rather boisterous voice exclaiming to any and all who would listen to just how poor she thought the economy is.

On and on she went describing one debacle after another about others tales of doom and gloom. Not stopping long enough to give names or credibility to the short stories she weaved. Building into a crescendo as more and more interest grew from the surrounding group she blurted " and if your thinking about getting a home loan you can forget about that ! " " There are no home loans available that is unless you have a credit score in the high 700's and you have at least 25% down."

It was right there I had enough and rose up and said " That is just not true"suddenly the room became quiet and the attention swung to see me standing there confronting this purveyor of negativity. " What she exclaimed? "

"None of the things you say are true", I said. There  are abundant home loan products available. " As a real estate Broker working in this state now for over 20 years I am finding no problem at all finding home loans for virtually anyone who wants one."

Just at that time a fellow who had been sitting close to me also stood up and said. " I agree completely!" He went on to say " I am a car salesman and have to combat this every day." He told us of a common story that happens in his business day in and day out. That of Buyers out looking and finding incredible deals yet reluctant to buy. When quarried their response is that they heard that there were no loans available. " It is just not true he said " " I have multiple financing options available and the rates have never been better"

All in all this is a great time to buy! If your looking for that next car or Your Next Home now is the time. Or you can always wait for prices to start to climb. Then you can sit back and say " Gee I should have bought when the market was down "

Amen brother, Amen. Most of this we can lay at the feet of our media outlets. So much untrue, so few willing to listen.

Thanks for stopping by Fred. I agree that there is a strong desire by news outlets to be on top. Negative news always sells. Media outlets have stopped being objective. They have instead taken a position of asking questions of chosen pundits. Often not stopping to challenge those answers with facts or just competing answers. Instead they allow the answers to stand.

Then as the questions begin to rise from the masses they report the dissatisfaction of us all. Where are we to get the facts if the news organizations no longer provide that to us?

Hey Tim,

It looks as if you have become quite active again here on the Rain. We all need to stand up and be counted. Other wise those who look up to us for guidance will not be challenged to grow to their full potentials.

Good for you for standing up to the negativity!  I hear in passing way too often how bad things are - of course they are not as good as they can be but thinking positive is the only way to go.  Doom and gloom is no fun and doesn't get you anywhere!  Thanks for sharing.

Same thing here in Maryland.  Where the heck are these people getting these false impressions?  Is the media actually telling these people they have to have a 700 credit score and 25% down?  Now is the time to buy and people don't seem to realize this.  The papers will say it is time to buy when the bottom has already been reached and we are on our way back up.

Brien,

Exactly right. The time to buy is not after it already has begun to move the other way. Timing is everything if you are a true player.

If however you are the average home owner just looking to buy your first home, a home that you may stay in for a few years or better, then now is your time.

Five to ten years from now no one will remember if they bought $10,000 one way of the other. You will always remember it though if you wait to long.
