For all those new to ActiveRain or new to social networking in general, as in life there are etiquette rules with your online posting of blogs, adding friends & associates, commenting, etc. Rule #1: Do NOT Spam! Social Networking is just that, networking! When adding a friend or associate include a personal message, such as "The reason I would like to add you to my associates is..." Don't add associates or friends simply to get your name out there in cyberspace. Add associates with the intention of sharing information or professional services. On Facebook, MySpace, and other social networking sites only add friends with the same intention. Add friends not solely to gain businesss, but rather to share information. Think of the philosophy as "get by giving". It takes a real estate professional 5 minutes of their time to write a blog article sharing insightful property information. Although the valuable information may not translate into the reader buying or selling a home immediately, the reader might appreciate the information enough to refer a friend, family member, or coworker to the Realtor who demonstrated their knowledge!
