Your driving down the street, you pass a sign along the road or highway that has been there for a very-very long time, it has tears-spots-water marks, and you have long since forgotten what the sign even says, it becomes just part of the scenery, it just blends in with everything else, no one notices or cares about it or you for that matter if it happens to be your sign, but have some a--w---e spray graffiti on it and all of a sudden everyone notices-even you, look how bad that looks--who would do something like that-CRIMINALS-there aut to be a law (oh right-there is a law), well guess what folks, this is just a little example of what 99% of the professionals that depend on their phones for a living do to themselves, they go out of their way to look and sound exactly like everyone else, no you don't you say !!
In case you did not know it, the number one tool that any of us have in this sales world of ours is, and I must bow to it, because you must Cherish it almost like a god, honor it-caress it-respect it-know that it is your leader-it gives you the power, you should have a picture of it everywhere, in your office-your car-your house-your forehead-EVERYWHERE-GET IT.
How many times do you just run into somebody for a meeting, write them a letter for a meeting, have them write you a letter about maybe listing their home with you, sounds stupid does it not, well I essentially see this happen every single day, 7 days a week, it is pathetic, and it costs you thousands upon thousands of dollars in lost revenue, I can hear the doubting thomas's out there, thats dumb, what is this guy all about, lets go read a blog that talks about how Realtor.com rips us off man-its not right, but I wish I made enough money to actually advertise on Realtor.com, so those of you that find those blogs more interesting, have a nice day, now for the other two people still reading this blog (thanks again Mom) this is a MUST DO STARTING NOW-IT WILL NOT BE EASY-BECAUSE CHANGE IS DIFFICULT, AND THIS INVOLVES A TRICKY EXERCISE OF THE INDEX FINGER AND YOUR MOUTH, so you may want to check with your doctor before attempting this life changing event !
There is a whole class that I do on phones that once you hear it you will say, now why didn't I think about that, well you may have at one time or another but just didn't act upon it.
Have you ever called someone that you call often and just cringe after hearing the same old message, one that dates back before there was cell phones, and since no one hardly ever answers their cell phones, you have to listen to the same old message, the same old dusty-worn-out--boring message, and you cannot even press a number to by-pass the message. Change your message everyday, (NOW THIS GUY IS GETTEN OUT OF LINE HERE-BETTER CALL ACTIVE/RAIN AND SEE IF WE CAN GET HIM BANNED OR SOMETHIN HERE) intentional misspelling here folks, Yes, Change your message everyday, let people know that your alive-in the ballgame-active in stuff, they like it trust me, say something like, Hello, This is Me (please folks use your own name here-hey-this guy is kinda funny--NOT) , This is me folks, its Saturday-April the 21st (PRESS ONE TO BY-PASS THIS MESSAGE) its a sunny day and I'm out and about doing my thing, tell me where I can tract ya down and I will call ya back as soon as I can, remember my website (better have one folks) folks, http://www.mysite.com/, and remember my new listing at 1122 My Listing Ave in Anywhere, USA, or Today I am-having an Open House at 1122 Open House, remember you have already given them a chance to press 1 and by=pass your message, so if they choose to listen to you, you have a captive-willing audience-WOW,worth its weight in gold.
Practice your message until it becomes natural, speak rather quickly of course but let them know that you are alive, you know what day it is, your IN THE BALLGAME, give them a tip, give them anything but don't give them the SAME OLD BORING MESSAGE, hello, this is Mary , I cannot answer my phone right now because it takes too much energy and I would have to think, I don't like to think, but use me for your Realtor or Lender, GIVE ME A FRIGIN BREAK, for those of you that do not understand the value in what I am asking you to do, GOODBYE-GET A JOB IN THE FAST FOOD INDUSTRY-ITS BOOMING !
Change your message everyday,NOT sometimes-EVERYDAY-let them know what day it is and possibly what kind of a day it is, give them a number to press to by-pass your message and leave you a message(check with your phone carrier) and leave them with something that is up-beat, not the same old crap,something like, There's is a Secret Out There-Find Out What That Secret Is, IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE, thanks much, talk with you soon !
And if you are going into a meeting and will not be able to answer your phone for a period of time, let them know, use that finger and your mouth (disclaimer, remember to check with your doctor if you experience any of the following symptoms-I do not know how to change my message-I never have any meetings to go to-My friend says thats stupid and so I won't do that-I never look to see what the Top Guns are doing-I run with my kind of crowd-wer'e comfortable with doen what wer'e doen-NOTHING-I only have a 5 minute cell phone plan and changing-my message would put me over, HEY-I ACTUALLY HAD A STUDENT VOICE THIS COMPLAINT TO ME-,and the number 1 symptoms is-if you experience any kind of resistance to this advice you might have E.D.,in which case I would smash my phone into many pieces and like I like to say, start a career in the ever growing fast food industry, ITS BOOMING FOLKS !
Bottom Line-Change Your M essage Everyday, Change it if you are going to not be able to answer it for more than one hour, have a number to by-pass your message, NEVER-EVER-EVER EVER-PUT SOMEONE ON HOLD FOR ANOTHER CALL-ITS RUDE-ITS DISRESPECTFUL-ITS SHOWS ME THAT YOUR AN IDIOT, THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS, CUT THEM OFF AND CLAIM THAT THE SIGNAL WAS LOST, but never put anyone on hold-END OF STORY !! And if you make a mistake during the recording, not a major one of course, just correct yourself in the message, people love it, they eat up on this kind of honesty, I actually have clients and other Realtors I know that call my number everyday just to hear my upbeat message and sometimes its pretty funny, I make myself laugh, is that egotistical or what, but hey folks, remember, there's only a few out there that want to stand out from the crowd, (thanks again Mom), so for now folks, and this is a very very basic but one of the most important things you can do to better your Professional Image, if this one throws you, well, there's always the you know what industry--Good Health & Much Success to ALL- Crazy Guy in California--CG, PS, For a sample of an actual recording that I left on my cell phone call, 1-800-719-2698-Ex CGIC, (CGIC stands for Crazy Guy In California of course )--later--CG
