When you visit Franklin Tennessee to look for your next house in one of the best towns in the U.S., plan on sending a little extra time with your Realtor (hopefully me). With this extra time take a tour of Franklin. Enjoy the historical sites from the Civil War Battle of Franklin the Carter House (the Union Army's base camp) or the Carnton Plantation (the improvised hospital for the Confederate Army).
Then take a drive to downtown Franklin TN. Park in one of the two free parking garages 2nd or 4th Ave. and walk the two blocks of Main Street, visit the shops and try the local restaurants. You can dine on traditionally southern, pizza, upscale Italian, an Irish Pub, and about a half dozen all American eateries.

While you're downtown be sure to visit the wide variety of shops, upscale apparel, antiques, art shops, interior decorating and design supplies, soap, stationary, knick-knacks, and of course jewelry shops, oh, did I mention a cupcake shop? If you are just window shopping or a serious buyer, take your time, meet the local people and enjoy your time there. Franklin is a very walker-friendly downtown.
When you leave downtown Franklin (TN) try the shops at the Factory at Franklin, if it wasn't dinner or lunch time downtown, don't worry, there are probably another half dozen places to chow down at The Factory. Once again, they have shops to suit all shoppers and like downtown Franklin, they are all locally owned. If you want big national chains head up to the Cool Springs Galleria Mall. But for the real flavor of Franklin and friendly local merchants, your best bet is Downtown or The Factory.
Are your feet getting tired? Hop in the car and take a drive down the Trace, the Natchez Trace Parkway. The historic is route reported to have been used by then Colonel Andrew Jackson to marched his troop back from The Battle of New Orleans back to Nashville. In the Spring the flowering trees are stunning and in the Fall the foliage will knock your sox off.
If you plan enough time, of course you have to drive the 20 minutes north to Nashville and see what The Music City is all about, but that's another blog. All this and only 20 minutes from Nashville, if you haven't thought about making Franklin TN your next home, you should.
