State Senate Approves Legislation Affecting Landlords
On November 24, 2008, the New Jersey State Senate approved S869 - Turner (D15), which permits municipalities to adopt ordinances requiring landlords with a maximum of four dwelling units to post a form of security, such as a bond, if their tenants have been repeatedly convicted of disorderly, indecent, tumultuous or riotous conduct. NJAR® submitted a memorandum strongly opposing this legislation. S869 will now be referred to the Assembly Housing and Local Government Committee for further consideration.
