This is the perfect time of year to prepare your home for winter. You need
to have your heater/furnace serviced, your chimney cleaned, replenish your
wood supply, and purchase fuel or propane before the cost goes up later in
the winter. It¹s also a good idea to insulate against drafts, inspect and
install new weathering stripping around your doors if needed. If you have a
drafty older home with old windows, installing plastic on them is a very
cost-effective solution. Installing foam gaskets behind light switches and
outlets in the exterior walls. Drain and disconnect hoses make sure all your
outside water spigots are drained to prevent them from freezing up. Test
your smoke detectors and change the batteries in them. Make sure you have
Carbon Monoxide sensors in your home, especially if you use natural gas,
propane, or wood to heat your home in the winter. If you have an attached
garage on your home, make sure you pull your cars outside when you start
them to warm up. Follow these guidelines for a safe and warm winter!
