I recently met two young men, friends of a friend of mine, who were quite confused at what to do with their lives. They had met each other while serving in Afghanistan. Neither of them had been to college. One had made good use of his military, by becoming a highly skilled Electrician, but felt his future in this field might be limited.
They were thinking of teaming up and going into some sort of business, but again they were stumped as to what type of business. I pointed out that opportunities , despite of the gloom ad doom in the media, are still good for dedicated hard working individuals. I also pointed out that even though the economy is faltering, there is still a lot of opportunity for those in a service industry. Whether you have a college degree or not, there is still plenty of opportunity for the entrepreneur who wants to go into business.
What are service businesses ?
What about Repair Services, I couldn't repair A Garage Door, Photocopier,or Microwave to save my life, heck it's all my wife can do to get me repair a faucet. I told the young men with a little Training a person can carve out a tidy career in the repair industry. I also told the one young man that with Training as an Electrician that he's got the world by the tail today. He can work any place he chooses, or start his own Electrical business: The sky's the limit in this field.
I also remebered to mention Sales, with all of it's tributaries, which include the real Estate industry. Now, I know what you are all saying, starting Real Estate in this economy "Suicide", NOT SO, while there are more Foreclosures than we have seen in a longtime, that in it's self represents opportunity, not only that but consider that everyone has their own Sphere of Influence. Again it comes down to and work and Dedication.
How many of you have already diarized your 2009 Calendar, or even given a thought to completing a business plan for next year? I asked this of one of the Realtors n our office, he said , Oh Yeah, "I'm going to show up in the office every day" Well I hope you all plan a little better than that or we likely won't be reading your Blog's next year. The harder I work the Luckier I get!
