The only thing I needed to do today were the dishes in the sink. But, a funny thing happened on the way to the sink; I decided to finish installing the travertine stone on the kitchen backsplash.
The tile saw on the counter was starting to look like a permanent fixture! I just couldn't figure out how to decorate the darn thing for the Holidays, so my new goal was to finish the stone and get it out of the kitchen!
I've already completed the stone on two walls- all that was left was that 5 1/4" strip from the counter-top to the top of the bar on the kitchen island. It really didn't look that difficult. The island is long, but "how hard could it be"? I'm thinking 3 hours, maybe four at the max.
I moved everything from the counter to the bar, got the tools out and started removing the old ceramic tile, which was still in great shape, but the Travertine was my "updating" project.
The old ceramic tile was adhered to the drywall that insisted on leaving with the tile! I was doing everything I could to separate them, but they were glued together "for life"
God bless my husband, who said "just take it all out and I will put up a new strip of drywall for you", so we proceeded to knock the you- know- what out of the tile and the drywall, and presto chango, the kitchen was now a total demolition zone, and the dishes were still in the sink!
My honey replaced the strip of drywall for me and I worked the rest of the day installing my beautiful stone. Six hours later the dishes are still in the sink, with drywall dust on them and I'm tired. Thank goodness for Thanksgiving leftovers- no cooking tonight. I'll do the dishes tomorrow before I start grouting!
Tell me about your home improvement projects, I would love to hear story.
