Affordability is causing people to avoid large home purchases that were so popular during the housing boom. People are instead moving to apartments and condos of smaller scale. These housing trends have caused a change in design for furniture manufacturers.

Persuaded by the data that more people are buying and renting smaller spaces, furniture makers have scaled back sizes of item like sofas, tables and especially home offices that have been reduced to a single fold-out cabinet in many cases. Using a 70 percent scale to create better livability and market to the growing number of people who are choosing to live by themselves.

As the trend for housing size scales back, smaller furniture can certainly be a great marketing piece to stage vacant units and help a potential tenant feel they can afford to live there and still have the space to enjoy it. Read the full article here.
