This year I am so thankful to have both my son and my brother home in the states for Christmas. One of the hardest times for the families of our military is when their loved ones are deployed and so far away from home for the holidays.
When you're making out your Christmas card list this year one way to send thanks and spread some holiday cheer in support of these brave young men and women is through Holiday Mail For Heroes. The American Red Cross and Pitney Bowes have formed a partnership to collect and distribute one million holiday cards to American service members, veterans and their families across the United States and around the world.
These holiday cards should be addressed and sent to:
Holiday Mail For Heroes
P.O. Box 5456
Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456
Please note that all cards must be postmarked no later than December 10, 2008.
More information and a list of recommended guidelines can be found at www.redcross.org/holidaymail.
If you have children what a great way to get them involved by creating their own cards and sending a personal heartwarming message that will mean so much to the troops.
There are 186,000 members of our U. S. military who are currently serving in Afghanistan and Iraq who will not be able to be with their families during the holidays. Let's show them our love and support in the true spirit of the Christmas season.
May God Bless all our soldiers. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers to stay safe and to come home soon.
