How To Spot A Scam On Active Rain

By
Real Estate Agent with 1st Cornerstone Realty

Since I've been a member of Active Rain, I've received a lot of phone calls from everything from scams, pyramids schemes, buying referrals, ect.  So I wanted to write a post about how I can dig through the bull by just looking for a few things.

The first thing to look for is when you get an email for someone to call you in order to talk business.  Whenever someone wants me to call them, I just tell them to send me an email explaining what opportunity they are looking for.  I just had a call from a guy and I told him to send me an email.  He did and I Googled the company.  There were so many complaints about the company that there is no way I would even associate myself with anything like that.

Not all calls are scams from Active Rain.  So are great leads, buyers, or listings.  The others that I've received like the "pay your house down in 3 years" or "educate your buyers by joining our pyramid $59 to start" and other junk really tests my intelligence.  Just because I'm black doesn't mean that if the person selling the scam is also black, that I would fall for some crap in order to take advantage of people.

I don't need money that badly where I need to take money from people in these pathetic scams and rip-off artists.

Scammers are all over the place, not just picking our contact info up from Active Rain.

I'd bet I get at least one a week from somewhere.
