Calavera Hills is another of Carlsbad's master planned communities (see also La Costa Ridge and La Costa Greens - links below).
Location, views, and affordability combine to make this a community worthy of your attention if you are shopping in the Carlsbad real estate market.
Carlsbad is located about 30 miles from San Diego, and Calavera Hills is situated on rolling hills in the northeast corner, east of Carlsbad Village and bordering on Oceanside.
Most of the homes have been built and are occupied, although the final phase of homes is being sold in Ravinia, built by The Corky McMillin Companies. Only a handful of lots are still available to purchase as of April 2007.

This Carlsbad real estate community offers some wonderful views of the hills and back-country, and some homes have distant ocean views as well. There are miles of nature trails to explore, plenty of open space, and several swimming centers, small parks and tot lots.
The Calavera Hills Community Park is nearby, offering a ball field, community center, and, during the summer, a series of free Jazz Concerts sponsored by the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts (TGIF Jazz in the Park). There is also a new elementary school (Calavera Hills Elementary) and middle school.

Housing, built by several well-known area builders (e.g., McMillin Companies, Brookfield Homes) is organized into a number of neighborhoods, including Barrington, Capistrano, Nantucket, Sheffield, Montara, Mariposa, Ravinia, Mystic Point and Summerhouse. Here are both attached and detached homes, most of them two-story.
As of 4/22/07 there are 20 Carlsbad homes for sale in Calavera Hills (13 detached and 7 attached). Prices range from $340,000 to $839,000 (($629,000 to $839,000 for detached, and $340,000 to $540,000 for attached). The new homes to be built in Ravinia, noted above, are priced from $694K - $735K plus upgrades.

Calavera Hills is located near many amenities in Carlsbad Village (shopping, restaurants, the Coaster). Take a tour of Carlsbad to learn more about Carlsbad itself - amenities, housing and things to do. Oceanside is also nearby, offering a broad array of shopping and restaurants as well.
The Carlsbad beaches are about 15-20 minutes drive, depending on time of day and your route. Calavera Hills residents can enjoy golf at Omni La Costa Spa and Resort and the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort; the new public golf course at The Crossings is due to open in July 2007.
There is also a public golf course just a mile away at Rancho Carlsbad. There is a myriad of shopping along El Camino Real in South Carlsbad and Encinitas, about 15 - 20 minutes south.
