Blackberry Storm Review

By
Real Estate Agent with J. Rockcliff Realtors (#01723588)

A couple of weeks ago, I talked about getting the Blackberry Storm.  I was pretty excited about getting this phone.  I needed a Blackberry, so I was waiting until this one came out.  I have been disappointed.  Here are some of the things I don't like about this phone.

First, I turn the volume up all the way and still have to plug my other ear to hear what the person on the other end is saying.

Next, while I am on the phone, my cheek hits the mute button without me knowing and then the person on the other end can't hear what I am saying.

Next, All of a sudden, my phone stopped syncing to my email, so I no longer was able to receive my emails through my phone.

Here is one of the most frustrating things.  When my phone rings, I can't answer it. I try pushing the talk button and also try pushing the answer button and neither one will answer the call.  This doesn't happen everytime, but it happens enough to make me miss important calls.

I am not one to give advice, but in my opinion, I would wait until all the bugs are out of the phone before getting this one.

I have seen reviews that really tear up the storm....

I have read reviews that say the touch screen is too senitive and sending and typing plus sending e-mails is very difficult.....

I am GLAD I have my Palm Treo......

It works very well, thank you....AND I did NOT spend an arm and leg to get it.... new Palm Treo 700Ws go for upwards of $600.00........ I got mine on EBAY for $125.99 including shipping....hehehehe

I personally think $600 would be better spent on a used laptop with wiFi access...instead of the latest fad in cellphones...

It's just my opinion.....

Thank you Steve, I was waiting for my contract to run out and grab a Storm. Isn't it a shame, they are so anxious to get these new models out, they always have bugs. My wife and daughter got stuck with first issue models that did not work well. Thank you for the warning, I have a couple of months for an upgrade, maybe that will be enough time....

Steve - I had been complaining about my Treo when I first got it and finally took it back only to find that it was defective. I got a new one which lasted a while longer again defect.  I am not sold on this high tech phones.

Steve, I guess so much for the Storm being the iPhone killer. I have the 3G iPhone and its the best smartphone device I've ever owned.

Steve:

Thanks for your review. I am due for an upgrade, and was going to switch my old school (but extremely functional) Blackberry for the Storm. I had tried the Palm Treo when it first came out, but it was unreliable and unpredictable, and after losing a lot of time and exerting a lot of effort into trying to figure it out the issues--I sent it back.  After your experience I will hold off--I probably have more technology than I need at this point anyway!

I've been hearing a lot of good things about the Nokia N97, due out in mid-2009. It's a little pricey, but is packed with some great features. If it can deliver on the marketing hype, I'll definitely consider it.

I have a Treo, and the 5th one finally was reliable...that's how many I went through in a matter of 6 months!  My husband has the older blackberry and has never had problems.  My daughter has a Treo and has had no problems until recently (her 2 years are about up)...but then she uses it for everything, so has probably worn it out! My problem is that the Treo will open my Supra lockbox...which the Blackberry won't.  So, in February, when I can turn in my old Treo for a new one, I think I will be sticking with the Treo.

I was thinking about getting the storm but I have decided to stick with my TREO.  It works well (most of the time) but more importantly it has actual buttons to press and it opens the Supra lockboxes.
