And How Does My Garden Grow ?
These days it is pretty much on its own.........Thank goodness I reverted to what works in our area and have been operating under the assumption that if it grows well duplicate that over and over. Ginger is such a joy. Just get a rhizome from a friend and in no time your open spaces begin to fill in with the most heavenly " fragrenced " plant imaginable.
I have also fallen in love with Tibouchina ( Princess Flower ) it has a fuzzy leaf almost like lambs ears....and a darling little bloom that reminds me of Mexican Petunia...intensely purple. In New Orleans it over wintered and continued growing on its old stalk but in Pensacola it dies to the ground so far but comes back with a vengeance and in late fall can be six feet tall. Like most of the plants in my garden, it has wheels ......I have moved this plant at least once and it is thriving.
I am not a paper and pencil gardener .....I garden in my head and am apt to move anything a couple of times. Three times is my official limit. If by the third move it is not working it is not for me.
I continue to love garden ornaments but they must be subtle and not on the cutesy side. Although, I must admit to having one of those goofy faces on a pine tree that died after Ivan and is actually just a place holder in the garden .....My husband and I almost split up over that one but even now he too admits my ten foot pine pole is a hoot!
Garden are self expression and love of the out doors.........don't get to hung up on the rules.......learn the great source materials like Fine Gardening Magazine and the local extension office and you will find the most peaceful and rewarding past time imaginable......
