Chicago Home Shoppers Ending Up in Forest Park

By
Real Estate Agent with HomeSmart

I just sold a beautiful townhouse in Forest Park IL to another couple who started looking in Chicago but ended up looking in Forest Park and the adjoining town of Oak Park.  Like my other recent couple they really wanted a place in Chicago but weren't happy with what they were getting for the money.

As out-of-towners, they did some researching and decided that the only suburbs that would do would be Forest Park, Oak Park and River Forest.  Only Forest Park had property they were interested in looking at.

We did a whirlwind weekend tour and it was long enough for them to realize that Forest Park truly is a gem consisting of 2.4 miles and a population (based on the 2000 census) of 15,688 residents.  What attracted my recent buyers was the access to downtown Chicago via the Green Line or Blue Line El stations.

The other attraction is the good mix of single family residences and condos or townhomes.  You get more for your money with Forest Park real estate yet are close enough, depending on your location, to walk to Whole Foods in River Forest or the cute outdoor shopping mall on Lake St. just east of Harlem in Oak Park.

Of course, Forest Park has its own selection of shopping, businesses and restaurants.  One of the most notable long-time area businesses is Ferrarra Pan Candy Company, notable for Lemonheads and other sugary sweets.
