What a night!!! But the Christmas tree is up now.

Wrong, 3 Christmas trees are up now. And we never ate the Octopus.                                              This would have been the perfect night to shoot a reality show at my house. It was hilarious. Just a little back ground info. I am a single female 110 pounds, very creative with long fingernails and high heels. . . . . .That translates to I am not really good at putting up a Christmas treesand I hate fake trees but I am very good at organizing things and motivating people. (I can make a home cook meal that tastes great) So, every year I invite some friends over to have dinner and help me put up the Christmas tree. Most of my friends do not answer their phone in the beginning of December, but some of them are good sports. This year I could convince Manny and Ray, Deb, Toni, and Bobby.

All of them know that I do not do too many things the "ordinary way" and they come prepared. But this year I also threw Bobby in the game and that threw everything else way off. (Never a dull moment with Bobby) He brought over a surprise, two live octopus.octopus

Needless to say that nobody knew how to clean them or cook them, but we tried (unsuccessfully I might say, it was a story by itself) In the meantime the rest of us started with the tree. Anne's treeI asked Ray to help me bring it in the house. We went outside and he froze, he did not believe that I was serious (I had cut a real Cedar tree from my backyard) (7 feet wide)Poor Ray, he started arguing with me and trying to convince me that this was impossible and would not work and even offered to buy me a tress at home depot if I would just give up on this idea. (he should know better, I never give up) so, we got the tree in the house and it took 6 people,  a couple of buckets, tree stands, bricks, string, pretty much everything in my garage to actually put it up. But, we did it!!! Do you know how heavy a cedar tree is? We had some "left over's" and Manny went to work and started at a second tree, inspired by this Deb, Toni and I started a third tree. (While Bobby was still giving good advice and dealing with the octopus) and my cat was watching it from a safe place (she thought, after the nearly got buried under the tree when it fell over 5 times) So, now I have 3 beautiful Christmas trees (one being 7 foot wide) but I have to have my Christmas party outside this year, because the house is packed with trees and it is really difficult to move around them.

This is only the beginning of my Christmas season, on Saturday I have my 15th anual "Girls only cookie baking day" Not once in 15 years did we produce " eat able" cookies.

Anne, Sounds like a fun night... But it does remind me of a "Charlie Brown" Christmas tree!  You need to wrap Linus's blanket around the bottom to hide the bricks!

Kristen, do not worry about the cat, tree is safe and secured now, the only way it could fall down again is if Grisabella (my cat) decides to climb up on it and do here little Christmas dance. (but than she would be on top of the tree not under it.

Robert, The "Project Chrismas Tree" is not finish yet. I have a nice golden see through blanket that I bought for this tree, but since we had to use a bright orange bucket as a stand, the blanket doesn't do a good job . . . . .

I am open for suggestions

I was there last night - yes, we did create memories that will last a lifetime! Going into this my husband and I knew that Anne never does things the cookie cutter way. But this one toped it all. At the end we all had a blast, were together, had a great time, good food and fun with friends - isn't it what it's all about?

Let me introduce myself to you.  I am Debra, Anne & I have been friends for about 15 years!!!! Yes I'm still alive to tell stories, she still ceases to amazzzzze me.  You never know what you are getting yourself into when she needs help in anything that she has in mind.  Last night, I pulled in her driveway & literally had to stop because there was this mound of hugh branches.   I said to myself OH MY GOD, what is she up to now.  Got out of car walked over to 4' high mound of trees, shook my head, said to myself the guys are going to have fun carrying this puppy in the house.  It took 3 men to carry the largest tree in, getting stuck in door way, bringing it in the house which was extremely top heavy.  The men flip, flopping trying to hold it, they looked like cartoon characters, rubberband men!!!!!  I looked at it this way, at least Anne didn't have us climbing 50" high tree & cutting it down.  THANK GOD FOR SMALL THINGS!!! I can go on & on, but I'll be here all year, I think you got the gest of it.  Wait, it gets better, icing on the cake was that LIVE OCTOPUS!!!!  Oh my god, Bobby brought it in this orange buckett, (p.s. that buckett turned into Anne's TREE STAND, yes, I am not kidding).  Anyway, Bobby pulls out this see thru garbage bag & there are TWO octopus's actually swimming in water.  Now, o.k. wonderful, octopus, well needless to say, no one knew how to remove skin & suckion cups.  We tried boiling them, cutting, pulling, each person grabbing one end & pulling it became a tug of war. It took forever removing skin, overcooked due to boiling & then me deep frying them.  But we ate them anyway.  So, PLEASSSSSSE, does anyone know how to remove skin & suckion cups?????  Stay tuned in what happens on our yearly CHRISTMAS BAKING DAY!!!!!  Oh, don't worry about Anne's cat, she's use to her projects & she to shacks her head......

Morning Anne,

Sounds like you and your friends had a great time decorating for the Holiday. Tell me, what did you make for dinner? I hope it was something special to reward their efforts. Happy Holidays.

My tree story is not nearly as interesting as yours.  Sounds like a party but looks like the kitty didn't want to have much to do with it.

Tony, that reminds me of two years ago, when we had the big  "Christmas llighting project" What I like so much about all this is the look on people's faces when I tell them what my idea is. than the looks and comments from them of why we can not get it done, than the smiles and sense of pride and accomplishment when against all odd we GET IT DONE every single time.

Great to have you as a friend.

Harold, since the whole focus was on the trees, I did not have much time, so I just made a huge pot of Spaghetti with meat sauce and a salad. Does not sound like much, but everything I make is from scratch and no cans or pre made tomato sauces or salad dressing in my kitchen. So whatever I make, it is better than in a restaurant.

(I have the German equivalent to a chef training and I owned 3 restaurants back in Germany)

Urr, ummm...  I thought about something after leaving a comment.  Did anyone 'google' or go to 'ask.com'?  I am sure I am pointing out the obvious.

Melody, we did all of the above. . . But you know how it is right?

Too many cooks in the kitchen and we were very distracted by the falling tree project and

we had too many men in the group that did not believe that you have to cook this thing for at least an hour and add a wine cork to the water and the eggnog we consumed during the process did not help either.

It was a lost cause right from the start.

With all this said, keep in mind this puppy was really scary. It kept moving and crawling around, out of the pot, out of the sink, sucking onto everything it could grab (that went on for hours AFTER it was dead for some time) The next time I have octopus, it will be in a nice restaurant, trust me.
