'Twas Christmas on Liberty and all through the Square, creatures were stirring! Downtown Waynesboro will be jingling with joy Friday night, and DOOR (the Downtown Organization of Retailers) has special treats for every on, including a 14-foot Ferris wheel which is one of the new attractions this year.
The public is also inviter to travel back in time for a one-act play performance of "Little Women." Actors from the Dublin Bohemian Theatrical Society will bring the classic tale of the March sisters to life beginning at 7 p.m. at First Liberty Market.
"We are so exited to have them," Nan Lynch, DOOR co-chair, said, adding that the company's owner is a Broadway performer. "He's a local boy who came back home to help enrich his community, and we are thrilled to have them in Waynesboro."
Youngsters who enjoy Capital City Bank's annual train ride will pile aboard this year's Polar Express as it makes trips around downtown as well as inside the back.
"Come hungry and ready to find those special, one-of-a-kind Christmas gifts." Lynch said, noting that this year's vendor total is above 20. "We want to make this event the best ever. Come see Santa, take pictures on his sleigh and enjoy a night with your community."
Downtown business have several activities planned for children, including writing letters to Santa at the Briar Patch; thumbprint art at the Picket Fence Framing and Antiques; and First National Bank's Cookie Crunch.
Get creative with sand at Old Fella Burke County Animal Rescue's booth, and be sure to stop by the courthouse to have your picture taken with Santa by Graphicsmith Studios. Photos may be picked up the following day.
Santa's Sleigh will also be parked in front of First National Bank and is available for pictures all evening, and for those with a sweet tooth, don't forget to visit the elf shoppe for some good old fashioned candy.
Other treats for the tummy include hot chocolate, fried Oreos, potatoes soup and sandwiches, coffee wassil, cheese straws, hot mint tea, apple cider, homemade cakes, Philly steak sandwiches, divinity, key lime fudge and much, much more.
Winning creations and all entries in DOOR's Gingerbread Extravaganza will be available for viewing at the law office of Jackson Cox. Winners will split nearly $400 in prize money.
