Have Ya Been To Mt. Lemmmon Arizona Recently?

If not - you might want to see what's happened to the town of Summerhaven, Arizona in the past few years!  Mount Lemmon Arizona is a short, 24 mile drive from Catalina Highway and Mt. Lemmon Short Road on the northeast part of Tucson, Arizona.

The Mount Lemmon fires made national news in June of 2003 when the small community was rocked with a fire that nearly destroyed everything.  It's been a little over 5 years since the fire blazed through the community and in that short time - the town of Summerhaven is back up and running - and better than ever!

What is most striking are the homes being built!  Many structures are truly magnificant, custom log homes that are selling anywhere from $390,000 all the way up to $1.2 million dollars.   What is better, more homes are being built -- with each trip up Mt. Lemmon, a new cabin or ground breaking of one can be seen in various areas.

Here are some recent snapshots of the cabin homes around the community:

AMAZING!  If you visited Mt. Lemmon before the fires - you'll know that this kind of real estate was rare or just was not available up there before the fires!  Today, it is common to see spectacular homes all over!

Homes aren't the only real estate news up on the mountain! Here is the new General Store and the Cookie/Pizza Place (if you go here for cookies, try the Sampler Cookie - YUMMY - but it's costly - $5 for a cookie - but they are the size of a paper plate!) along with the Rainbow Gift Shop - all were rebuilt as fast as Pima County gave out permits!  Take a look:

Cookies and Pizza, Rainbow Shop and in the next photo - the Mt. Lemmon General Store.

Now that's a snapshot of the rebuilding -- here is what's new and what's coming:

Below is the brand new Mount Lemmon Visitors Center - residents and community alike can stop in and get some history about Mt. Lemmon, maps to local interests and the center is also available for use (I believe fees apply so make sure to call and check for availability and costs!).

And what's new for 2009??!!!  What do you think about condos and a new restuarant??!!

Here are photos of the upcoming "Sawmill Restuarant" and "The Pondersosa" Condos developments:

Gabrielle,

I haven't been to the top of Mt. Lemmon since the spring, so I'd better get cracking!

Gabrielle,

The cookies are spectacular.  Once a month we bike up there and they are the perfect snack before heading back down!   You forgot to mention the skiing that will be opening during the winter.  Here is a link: http://emol.org/tucson/mtlemmon/skivalley.html

HI MIKE!  Yes!  It seems to change every time I go up there!  I hope you make it soon!  --Gabrielle

HI SIOBHAN!  Welcome to Active Rain!  Yep - those cookies would get ya down the hill - come to think of it - I could have used one a time or two riding up myself!  Ahhhh...thanks for the link - I planned to write about the skiing when the runs open - but it's nice to have the info -- it only adds to the post!  Thanks and I will look forward to reading your posts! -- Gabrielle
