Christmas in Ice 2008 Looking for something to do this weekend other than battling the throngs of shoppers or sitting at home watching the same tired old movies on television? Come join us for a day of Christmas cheer at the home of Saint Nick in North Pole. Christmas in Ice events scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday) include:

* Kids ice carving competition 10:00am - 2:00pm.
* Interior Freight Dogs Practice Pull 12:00pm - 2:00pm
* Ice carving viewing and awards ceremony 3:00pm
* Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony 4:00pm
* Winter Carnival Fireworks Display (North Pole Mall) 5:00pm.

As luck would have it, Mother Nature appears to be prepared to cooperate with us. Weather reports indicate the temps should hover around 10 above with light snow.

Admission is $5.00 per day for adults and $3.00 for children under 12. Children under 5 are admitted free. A season pass is also available for $15.00 for adults and $9.00 for children.

Gate hours for the Ice Park are:

Sunday - Thursday: 11:00am - 10:00pm
11:00am - 11:00pm - Friday
9:00am - 11:00pm - Saturday
11:00am - 6:00pm - Christmas Eve
2:00pm - 10:00pm - Christmas Day

It is just incredible what you can do with clear ice and light. Remember the ice structures in the Arctic, they were involving professinal artistst and it was fascinating whatching them carve the ice with axes.

Jesse, Love the new picture!!  It looks like a brrrrrr good time!

When we first moved here we would laugh at people who were getting their parkas out when it was 50 degrees.  Well guess what we have acclimated.

What a 'cool' photo.  I am not sure I would last at 10 degrees.  I am freezing at 50.  Ice melts here.  (grin)

Jesse this is a beautiful photo.  I have a question... what in the hell do you people do when mother nature does not cooperate with you?  Hovering about 10 above huh?  My goodness, you must have been sweltering!

I LOVE ice sculptures! I bet the kiddie carving contest would be really fun to watch. I'm always amazed at what these guys can create with frozen water. :-) I'm creative...but I just did not get that ice carving gene. GREAT STUFF! GBU~

 Great Pictures Jesse, My wife surprised me for my 50th in August with a 12 day land/sea trip to Alaska. We started in Fairbanks. What breathtaking country.

  No offense, But I'll pass on the winter. I would like to see Denali and northern lights in the winter though.

It sounds like a great event. Check out my recent blog about the ice festival that we are having in our area.

I know many people that have moved from Alaska to my neck of the woods. We are cold and have a few bears but we don't miss the mosquitos.

I would have like to attend this event but my wife probably won't go back to the snows or the cold.  It is cold here, especially the last couple of days but at least the suns out now.  Don't get me wrong, low to mid 60's in Hawaii is cold for us!  Anyone planning or coming to Hawaii soon?
