Doctor’s Advice for Home Sellers’ Headaches!

It's an epidemic in the real estate market today: home sellers are getting sick.  The home seller's headache is itself of unknown etiology, although it actually mimicks a cluster migraine - that is, the agonizing failure of a house to sell as debts mount, hope dwindles, and emotions grow thin is painful.

It's not uncommon for stressed sellers to develop headaches that cause intense, throbbing pain on one side of the head. This is like a migraine.

It's not completely uncommon that sellers' headaches may also mimick the nausea and vomiting and sensitivity to light and sound common to migraines.

I haven't observed the common warning signs like flashing lights or loss of vision that occur before the headache strikes, but I do know the "cluster headache affect" common to cluster migraines is apparent among intensely burdened sellers who experience a seemingly unrelenting recurrence of these headaches in groups for days, weeks, or months.  Like a classic migraine, the pain is centered around or behind one eye.

Migraines and cluster headaches can have many causes, and thus a list of things to do to prevent their occurence (for home sellers in the red):

  • Avoid aged cheeses, nuts, beans, chocolate, red wine, or foods that contain caffeine, nitrates, and MSG.

  • Don't work in poor lighting.

  • Reduce stress as much as you can.

  • Get plenty of sleep each night.

  • Exercise regularly under your doctor's guidance.
