Never having been wildely impressed by YouTube, mostly due to quality issues (most videos look like they've been run over by a truck in a mud puddle!).

Recently they introduced their "high quality" videos (under the video, you can choose to view in "high quality", and very recently, introduced High Definition quality!

And I must say, I'm impressed - it's looking good!

So, How do you Upload Video in HD to Youtube?

For the highest quality, YouTube now recommends the following setting for your video:

MPEG4 (DivX, Xvid, H.264) format
1280×720 resolution
128k Mono or 320k Stereo MP3/AAC audio
24,25 or 30 frames per second
Up to 1GB file size and 10 min. duration
YouTube accepts a wide range of video file formats such as .WMV, .AVI and .MOV but you may get the best results from converting your file to MPEG4 video with MP3 audio.

What if you want to force HD playback when linking to a Youtube video?

Simple. All you need to do is to append the following after the url string. So, instead of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EutKrKTfLk, you would have http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EutKrKTfLk&fmt=

&fmt=6 - increases the resolution from 320×240 to 448×336, Flash 7 video @ 900Kbps; audio @ 44.1KHz 96Kbps Mono CBR.
&fmt=18 - increases the resolution to 480×360, H.264 video @ 512Kbps; audio @ 44.1KHz 128Kbps Stereo.
&fmt=22 - increases the resolution to 1280×720 (720p), H.264 video @ 1024Kbps; audio @ 44.1KHz 232Kbps Stereo.

What if you want to embed Youtube videos in HD?

Again, simple. All you need to do is make certain that &ap=%2526fmt%3D22 3 is appended to the URL string in the embed code.

Great photo. I just purchase a mini camcorder that is easy to load on U Tube. It is a lot of fun. Thanks for the info

Interesting news. However most of the videos I choose are old and grainy to begin with.

Thats one of my biggest complaints with youtube video's.  The graininess is very unprofessional.

Thanks for the info. Now if everyone just had super highspeed internet access to view it without all the starting and stopping...including myself...that would be even more terrific!

I make videos and embed them onto my website for from 2 sources so that those with slower connection speeds can play the you tube version and those who have a faster internet connection can play the higher quality video that I have embedded from welcome mat. see what I mean by going to www.ellertheseller.com and clicking on open house. I think it is a good solution for now.
