After graduating from University I lived in New Zealand for a while. After my adventure, I had decided to come home and save up money for about 6-8 months and then take off to South America for another exploration. When I got back to the Mobile Bay Area everything changed. I fell in love with our downtown. I had forgotten how beautiful the oak trees could be and the huge homes that line Dauphin and Government. What impressed me the most was how much change had happened in the heart of downtown.
Go have a look. If you have not been in a while, there are projects going on everywhere. I returned 2 years later to see new cafes, condos, commercial space, and apartments. And I was impressed. I decided right then to stick in Mobile and enjoy the relaxed bay lifestyle.
If you read previous posts, then you know that Mobile remained in the top 10 growth markets. See here.
I also got involved with ''A New Plan for Mobile" - If you didn't know, we hired an urban planning firm to help with the growth and structure of our city. Most of it focuses on downtown. Creating park space, Business Districts, Ubiquitous internet, transportation, more living space, etc.
If you are in the market, it would benefit you to have a look at the site of the plan and keep in mind what will be happening tomorrow and over the next 10 years.
Always good to have in your pocket. Here is the link to the New Mobile Plan.
Enjoy.
