Randy, I am not much of a photographer, so pardon this if it's a dumb question is the background out of focus because the subject is in focus or is the swing moving and you caught it in action?

the suject was not moving
the background is out of focus due to the DEPTH OF FIELD.
the image was captured using a 28mm 3.5 AIS lens. The aperature was wide open, hence shallow DOF. had i used say f16 to F22 the background would probably be in focus, but i might have needed a tripod to do the shot
