The Lewisville Independent School District is made up of all, or part of, at least thirteen communities including Lewisville, Highland Village, Copper Canyon, Double Oak, The Colony, Flower Mound, portions of north Carrollton, western Plano, and smaller portions of Frisco, Hebron, Coppell, Grapevine and Argyle.
Lewisville ISD encompasses 127 square miles in the southeast portion of Denton County. The Lewisville ISD has grown rapidly in the past few years as families make their homes in these communities to take advantage of the attractive location to the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, located only a short drive away.
Most of these communities are located about 35 minutes from downtown Dallas, and only minutes away from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, one of the busiest airports in the country. The residents enjoy the many cultural, recreational and entertainment advantages of the city. Besides convenient shopping in Vista Ridge Mall in Lewisville as well as the many malls located in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, residents can enjoy an array of cultural events right in their own backyards.
Local cultural arts events include symphony, dance, music, and theater. Educational exhibits abound in the area with displays of scientific collections at museums, zoos, the Botanic Garden, and the Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge. Dallas and Fort Worth science museums both boast planetariums, and the Fort Worth Herpetarium features one of the world's largest collections of reptiles and amphibians.
Nationally famous art collections are housed in area museums including the Kimbell, the Amon Carter Museum of Western Art and the Dallas Museum of Art.
Lewisville ISD is surrounded by more than 10 major institutions of higher education including the University of North Texas, Texas Woman's University, Southern Methodist University, and Texas Christian University. Numerous community colleges are also within commuting distance.
