Infinite Pie

One Stager's Philosophy

I believe that there is an "infinite pie" in the home staging industry. There are more than enough houses on the market to either stage or redesign for all of us to keep busy for a good while, if we all work together to educate the public and Realtors to the advantages of our business. The more stagers share the benefits of our labor, the more we help everyone involved. The stager makes a home beautiful for the seller. The Realtors have a more marketable product and the buyer is able to see themselves living in the home. Everyone wins.

The other aspect to the infinite pie philosophy is that we all are colleagues and not competitors.  Each one of us has strengths and weaknesses, so by sharing knowledge and time with each other we better the industry as a whole. There are things I can learn from each one of the stagers no matter how new or how seasoned, as well as being willing to help my fellow stagers with what I have learned. Pooling our knowledge in any of the venues like Active Rain, bulletin boards with RESA, ASHSR, IRIS, SDP or any other group will only strengthen our ability to do our jobs. The creativity each one of us brings to our own business can grow exponentially when shared with others. Not one of us will do the exact same thing even if we duplicate an idea because we will put our own touches on the idea to make it our own. There is so much camaraderie in working as colleagues to better what we do separately and collectively.

Hi Susan,

I agree with you 150%. I did the math one day. To make a comfortable living for myself and my family, who are all in this business with me, we need to stage .5% of the available market in the Lafayette, Louisiana area.

That's it. Point Five Percent!

That sure leaves a lot of houses out there for other stagers! I cannot help but be thrilled whenever we get the opportunity to meet fellow stagers. We are not in competition, no way, no how. There is simply too many people to educate and properties that need our expertise.

And like I always say, We can't stage them ALL!

I agree as well. I meet with other Stagers on a regular basis. There is so much work out there it only makes sense to work together to educate the public along with the Realtors. I recently attended RESA meeting and all 24 people in attendance agreed we are collegues not competitors.

Very true. The more we move the industry forward as a group the better. we have been meeting so many fantastic stagers across the country at our StagersLIST.com expos that it solidifies that statement even more! We have 12 planned for 2009 - so we look forward to engaging and meeting so many more.

Wonderful, well written post!  I meet monthly with stagers in my area.   We do not compete with each other-we support, educate and encourage one another.  Sharing information raises the level of our industry.

Congratulations on your first post. What you say makes good business sense. Because I have made it a point to network with other stagers in my area, we all refer jobs to each other, help each other on jobs and share ideas and tips. It helps us all to grow our businesses.

Yesterday, I had lunch with a stager from Toronto Canada and 2 stagers from Orange County in S. California. It was so great, lunch lasted until 4:30. We couldn't stop talking. Besides making new friends, I think we all learned something from each other. I wish I could do this every week.

Well said! Not only do we have the opportunity to share knowledge with each other but to band together as professionals in order to educate the public.

Thank you everyone for your kind words. December was a crazy time to start learning about blogging. I am excited to be a part of the Stagerslist Expo in Orlando so I can keep learning and actually meet some of my fellow stagers from the area.
