Is there a glimmer of hope for the housing market going into 2009?

I just read the best news I have heard in months about foreclosures here in Arizona.  I am so excited that I had to write about this news.  Foreclosures actually went down 17% from October numbers.  Only 3,826 homes were foreclosed on in November.  Estimates for December are also looking good, as the number of notice of trustee sales, or pre-foreclosures, fell 23% down to only 6,509.

Over the past couple of months, several big lenders have announced programs to work with struggling borrowers, and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have halted foreclosures during the holidays.  They also plan to begin lowering interest rates and payments on some loans.

Let me hear some more good news from other areas of the country!

Of course there is. It's one year later. We need time to go by to hurry up and get us to the soaring ways again..

I think if you could get the media to publish some positive news at least once a day the world would get better faster.

Greg - I guess real estate is truly cyclical, and things will turn around given time.

Denise - I like your thinking!  Way too much negativity in this world.

Thanks for the comments.

I work the foreclosure market quite a bit. The low priced inventory flies off the shelf very quickly these days.

Chuck - Although I tend to believe you to some extent, I still don't see homes sales flying off the shelf.  Home sales in the past several months have been higher than in 2007, but not anywhere near they need to be to reduce an ever-increasing inventory of homes.  Let's hope we see more improvements in 2009.
