and that's usually the best place in town to eat.
I have 2 local places that I love, for Mexican food. The first is located in an old bldg that reminds you of a 1950's cafe and is located near the steel mill. It's where most of the mill workers go for lunch. It's called the "Mill Stop Cafe". It's not fancy, owned by the same family forever, and the family works it. By your 5th or 6th time there, they know your name and pretty much what you at least want to drink. They serve typical mexican fare, tacos (on homemade shells), burritos smothered in red or green chile....LOVE thier green chili! They still give you a sopapilla at the end of the meal along with a bottle of honey and a shaker of cinnamon and sugar. They have the most incredible stuffed sopapillas! And all their guacamole and pico de gallo is made fresh daily! I have never liked nachos, (the kind with the 'runny cheese sauce stuff'), but everyone kept telling me I'd love the Mill Stops Nachos, so I finally ordered it, Ummmm! Real shredded cheddar cheese, fire roasted green chiles, and beans, closest I've ever come to any nachos as good as these was in Cozumel Mexico in a little place away from the touristy areas. Anyone visiting the Pueblo area should try at least 1 meal there! They are open M-F from 6am-9pm.
They are located at 317 Bay State Av Pueblo 81004 Phone 719-564-0407 (carry-out available)
The other Mexican food place I love is Jorges....If you ask anyone in Pueblo where Georges is, they'll probably ask you "George Who?". It's pronounced "Hor Hays". It's another family owned place. They serve some of the best enchiladas (green or red chili) and fajitas in town. Try the Fajitas! You will never leave here hungry! Jorges is located on just up the block from the Mill stop at 1319 E. Evans Ave-Pueblo- they can be reached at 719-564-6486.
So next time you come to Pueblo or are heading south, these are both easy on/off locations from I-25 on the south end of Pueblo.
