Tomorrow my husband, Bob Yousefian, Glendale City Councilman and I, are hosting an event at our home that most Realtors would die for! (Unless of course they were the ones actually trying to figure out the logistics!) We are hosting a holiday extravaganza at our home to benefit a local non-profit called 'Glendale Healthy Kids.' It is a organization that provides low-cost or free medical and dental services to kids in the community who would otherwise not be served. We are charging $20 per person and are expecting somewhere around 300 people to attend, maybe more! The kicker is, I have a house that is 2000 sq ft! You do the math! However, we have learned over the years that with table rentals, heaters and enough tea light candles, anything can look pretty. We are Dept. 56 junkies, (those are those little lighted houses) and we turn our whole living room into a Christmas Village with a train and everything. It looks real. Since my husband is a contractor, and a city policy maker, the village is even zoned correctly. We have a business district, a town square, residential, rural, and a resort area. I will try to get good pictures to post! Anyway, I digress..
Regarding the networking, there are city officials, community leaders, former clients, RE affiliates, and everyone under the sun, you name it, coming. I have an SOI that would make most people envious, but frankly in this market, most are not considering any type of real estate transaction in the near future. Our local paper is covering our event as well.
I think I might be sitting on a gold mine but don't know quite what to do with the opportunity that is right in my lap. I would love any suggestions from you guys out there.
The point of the event is for people to enjoy each other, the village, (oh, yeah, and our 12 foot tree, trimmed head-to-toe in glass ornaments and icicles) and at the same time, do something positive for the community in which we live. I am spending today cutting cheese, cutting veggies, decorating tables, making name tags, dragging out my serving dishes from the tall cupboards, going to Costco, last minute house cleaning, etc etc. so enough blogging for now. Wish me luck! There will likely be no blogging tomorrow, but I will report on the activities on Friday.
