Back to Basics!!

Real Estate Agent with MoVaDe Realty & Investments

Just wanted to encourage all fellow agents to go back to basics during these hard times and this really doesn't take money.  So many of us are making financial and business goals and it can be discouraging with market conditions what they are - especially as we budget for marketing.  I recommend reading the book "Shift" by Gary Keller - it really helps get the current market in perspective.  Door knocking and cold calling doesn't cause money - just takes time.  Mass email is inexpensive.  Then of course, we are all blessed to have this real estate network - Activerain.  We need to get back to basics!!!

When agents are crying the blues, I always tell them to get back to the basics. Some of the new agents do not know what I am talking about

I'm wondering about the modern day cold calling and door knocking strategies.  Has anyone been doing these lately, like sinde 1990?  It seems all of the old cd's and seminars I listen to talk about them and I'm curious if anyone has tried it.

I've been hearing about going back to the basics, but do you think  cold calling and door knocking are outdated?

Is emailing, social networking and chat rooms the new way?  Or would door knocking be more effective since it's so rare?

Looking forward to your response,

Hello everyone. I'm new here, so please forgive my lack of manners , by just asking direct questions of this lovely lady from TX, but I don't have many answers anymore.  here goes :

Read A Good Book and "Back to the basics", well, OK ; but you have to consider the facts, when your doing your job properly 7 days a week sometimes and the buyers are all just waiting around for the next court house foreclosure sale and won't make an offer on anything, then I'm not sure what to do in addition, to what I'm doing now.

Literally , I make an attempt to offer, to at least 30 people a week ( I sell ( make that sold ) a lot of family estate assets in the past ).  We do a good bit of advertising, Loopnet, local ads, networking with other Agents, plus working all the government development orgs and I find I can't get any offers, on properties that are truly quality assets. Literally, no offers, no one will make an offer !

So, what is the answer to that one ? Perhaps, since kindness and respect, cold calling and advertising is not working , then a hammer and pair of pliers to force the offers out of them might work, maybe ? Back to the basics you said ? OK, Please, You tell me what they are, those basics; because I must have missed them somewhere; but I don't think so. I would however love to learn.

Best Regards, Joe

Debora - There are alot of agents that were use to buyers and sellers coming to them. The shift book is great I'm half way through it. It tells us the basics to go out and prospect.
